*this is just an idea I have been toying around with*

I still have been thinking about dropping a v8 in my '98 sport. But i had the idea of buying an older carbed stang, rebuilding the engine and dropping it into my sport. I would still have the computer in it so the car would technicaly think it is still runnin with the old engine. Their is still some other things i'd have to fix or improve (gagues, OD tranny...etc)

does anybody know if this would be easier than dropping in a later expo 5.0?

Thanks for your help

Why would you even need the old computer if you didn't have the old engine or tranny? It probably has interactions with 4x4 and abs, but I'm sure that would require minimal wiring. If you're just worried about the CEL, just take out the bulb ;)

Actually, it would probably be easier to swap in a whole new set of gauges and do a custom gauge cluster like Troll, just get rid of the stock gauges altogether.

ya i have to agree Troll's gagues are lookin pretty tight.

but i figured that if i leave in the computer I would could do less wiring. and I could still use all of the normal features.
If im wrong let me know?

like A/C, defrost, wipers, blinkers and all that

Check with your cities emmissions first. In most of Colorado we have to have a fuel injected engine with the O2 sensor and computer. (supposed to be same year or newer but they can't tell) I am going to put in a carbed engine because I can register it at my friends house where they don't need emmissions. (in farm land east of denver)

Most of the accessories probably don't touch the computer. And if they do, it's only as a relay and you could rewire it.

I would make the system as simple as possible and try to get rid of the computer if I could.

I live in Florida with no emissions.

I just thought it would be easier to leave in the old computer or unplug it. Im not really in the mood to take a part the whole dash, besides i still have to figure out if the stang engine will fit up with the same tranny and engine mounts.

I'm assuming you've got a 4.0 in there right now, so you're going to have swap out your motor mounts, tranny mounts, and tranny, as the 5.0 doesn't bolt up.

well id have to get 5.0 expo mounts for the motor and the tranny. Does anybody know what else I need for the carbed swap?

do a search, you are going to need a lot more than just mounts, and it isnt going to bolt up even with mounts... you are going to have to do some major welding/fabrication as sports wee never offered with a v8, and are shorter than a 4 door explorer and driveline length may be an issue as well.... there is just sooooo much involved in doing a swap of that magnitude.....
