Well i have gotten this code EVERY DAY since i put the intake on so i was just throwing this idea out there. I will put the stock filter on tomorrow just to test it and take pics of the gap between the adapter and MAF.
-Keep an eye on this thread so you can tell me what you think tomorrow;)
Good luck!

could a blown head gasket be the reason for this code?

I suppose it could but I doubt that's the problem unless you are seeing other symptoms also like coolant or oil being burned or mixed. A compression test can give you a pretty good idea if the head gasket is bad or if you have a cracked head.

i do have some loss of coolant over the course of 5 days and how much oil would i be buring? Say a quart of oil between changes.

A quart between changes is probably normal. Check for water in the oil and / or oil in the water. Also, a bad lower intake manifold gasket can allow water into the oil or into the cylinders where it's burned.

Good luck with it and let us know what you find. I'll be doing a compression test and a cooling system pressure test on mine tomorrow after work to try and determine if I'm loosing my coolant through a head gasket or intake gasket. Mine isn't throwing any codes yet this time but I'm loosing coolant into a cylinder or two somehow.

ok today i was seafoaming my engine when i noticed that one of my cats were leaking. Could this be a possible reason for my lean code or am i still totally off:confused:

hmmm... it's possible, I s'pose.
which cat? front or rear? if front, I could definately see it; as the downstream O2 sensor would be getting inaccurate readings, and would adjust the amount of fuel into the cylinder(s).

As long as the leak is before the MAF I really don't think it would cause any problem.

Actually, that can be a huge problem. We have found in many applications...especially our s/c Cobras...that any change within a foot or so of the MAF causes calibration problems. You don't want any bends, etc where there weren't any...and you want the MAF sensor at the same "clocked" position as before. Any change in airflow across the MAF sensor can and will cause problems.

The Fox bodied 5.0 Mustangs really had an issue with this. Believe it or not, when you put a CAI filter on them, you can get rolling idle issues from the alternator fan disturbing the air going into the filter. So this can be critical. So my point here is let's take his CAI out of the equation by going back to stock and see if that cures his problem. As clean as his looks, and seeing close it looks to stock for locations, etc, it still wouldn't surprise me to see it go away with the stock filter set up.

ya it is the front cat that is next to the tranny pan. So if i get new piping and cats it should solve the problem?

well... there is no way I could say 100% that it would fix the issue... but it may.

well that deffinatly explains this damn rough idle i have been trying to cure:mad:

Ok i have done some research and i have came to the conclusion that is the upper intake manifold gasket. I have all the symptoms- lose of coolant, vacume leak, hissing sound after turing off engine, BAD ROUGH IDLE, and just overall ****y performance. I am getting it fixed Tuesday.

Upper or lower gasket? An OHV and 5.0 motor does not have coolant through the upper gasket. I don't know on a SOHC...but I have my doubts.

oh good point my mistake, so it must be the lower gasket if it is the OHV, right?

ok i brought the truck to my trusty mechanic today. He called me around 12 saying that there is a slight leak in the intake manifold gasket but he thinks that that is not the problem. So he replaced the PCV valve and the problem is still persisting. I am thinking that the leak in the intake manifold is the main problem because i am also loosing coolant:confused: For some funny reason i think the gap in the cone filter adapter could also be a factor in this P0174 code.
What else could it be?

Have you gone back to the stock air filter yet?
