CD scratch repair-Skip Dr.?

I have a few cd's that are a little scratched, and are starting to skip a little. Does anyone know of anything that will remove scratches? I heard of a thing called the Skip Dr. that is supposed to help. Has anyone heard of/used this before?

I use Wipe Out! CD repair kit. It works really great. Their web address is http://www.cdrepair.com

I have used it on software that would not play at all and after using it they work. No Problem!!!

I just purchased their CD cleaning kit, but haven't used it yet.

On a few of mine that have started to skip i usually use liquid car wax! It wont work for a deep scratch but if you got some with just the little fine scratches it should help out. It has worked on a few of mine before, so it might be worth a shot before you spend money on somethin else.

Use toothpaste
It is a mild abrasive. It works great on minor stratches. Make a watery paste.

Make sure you laser head is not dirty. I thought a few of my CD where bad till I cleaned the lense over the optic reading.

yes the CD DR works. My friend got one the other day and used it on a few of my CD's and DVD's and it woked great.

Pretty cool device.

I just burned some of my scratched CD's. The computer had no problemn reading CD's that my HU wouldn't touch. Just burn them at a low speed, 2x.

i burn mine at 16x, does that affect the quality? would 2x or 4x be better?
i was going to get a 24x cdrw drive but the price jump wasnt worth it to me so i got 16x. if the quality isnt as good, then i'll try burning at a slower speed.

I don't think it affects quality. But I have found that if the CD is scratched, burning it that fast will mess up the copying process. Going slower seems to give the computer a better chance to read through the scratch.
Just my experience.

I can attest to this too... I have a Philips burner+generic ROM, and it will burn fine at 16x as long as the CD is pretty prestine, but if it is scratched at all, it will botch up. I burn scracthed discs at 2x, never had a problem.

To fix scratched CD's, I use optical grade polish. I forget where I bought it, but I use it bring a REAL good shine to my Mach 1. I've also used Meguier's Mirror Glaze and it does a nice job and is less abrasive. Not even sure if it is still made though, the bottle I have is about 30 years old, found it in my Dad's garage, used to use it on motorcycle helmet visors.

I've used the CD Doctor for a while now and it works great on the smaller scratches. With the deeper ones there isn't a whole lot you can do.

Wipe Out does repair even deep scratches. They may not disappear completely, but they diminish to the point of the CD being usable.

I use the Maquier's Mirror Glaze on my display for my cell phone, but haven't tried it on CD (used it for motorcycle helmet as well). It is still available.

Ok, I tried the toothpaste and the car wax. The toothpaste seemed to work pretty well on the lighter scratches, but didn't do much for the deeper ones. It left a lot of very, very fine scratches, but they were so small I don't think it will affect anything.(I noticed that WIPE OUT! says it will leave scratches like that too). The car wax seemed to help, but not much. It mostly just made it more shiny. I followed the toothpaste with the car wax, and that seemed to help the most.
BTW I also tried the Meguiars mirror glaze, but it didn't seem to do anything at all. Maybe I just didn't rub enough?
I have a question: what does LOL mean?

LOL means Laughing Out Loud.

With the Wipe Out you do have to use some elbow grease for the deeper scratches. Sometimes more than one application is necessary. Yes, it does leave very, very fine scratches, but they don't effect the performance. You might have to do more than one app with the Maguier's as well.

There is something to be said for burning copies.
I used to copy cassettes now I burn copies of CDS and store the orginals.. is it a PITA... YES!

Do CDS get kicked around lotta in the car....YES, stepped on in the floor of your room.... YES.....ever get put back in those worthless plastic jewel cases... NO.

They (I don't know exactly what comany) make a special cd with little brushes sticking out of it. It is made specially to clean the laser lens on the cd player. I have used one before, and it seemed to work pretty good. I have seen them at Fred Meyer in the electronics dept. You could also probably find them at Radio shack, Wal-mart, or any store that sells cd's or cd players.
