Check Engine Light On!!!!

Check engine light came on, went to Auto Zone to have it scanned, gentleman told me it was a #1309 Ignition system mal###tion???? Has anyone ever heard of this code. Truck is running fine?????

Which engine is in your truck?

I think this is a camshaft position sensor code.

Here is the short story, I removed the sync to install a new one, Napa sold me the wrong one, so I cleaned the old sync oiled it overnight and put it back in. Truck running fine, no noise just a check engine light?????

Oh--I've seen this one--
it was hard to track down but ended up being a noise coming from the. alternator causing interference in the cam sensor signal.
The repair was a new alternator.

I'd try a new sensor first though.

Now, you say the truck runs fine, however when the CEL is illuminated, the engine will be running in limp mode. This will burn gas like crazy--

I will try a new sensor, its the wife's truck I did drive it yesterday seems to be fine, computer says 19.1 mpg. I'll get a new sensor in the morning and try that, how do I clear the light?????

Well I cleared the light by disconnecting the battery but after a day its back on??????

Back on with a new sensor?

Was it a 2 wire connector or 3?

It's best to clear them with a scanner-However your method will work also. In the case of a sensor replacement a total reset is ok.

If you could, get a picture of the inside of the senor shaft assembly-
You said you had removed it-
did you use the special tool to replace it?

Yes its the tool that comes with the sync kit from NAPA. its weird I never had a CEL until I took the old senor & sync out to clean it.

Well after I installed the new sensor the CEL came back on after 6 starts does this mean anything, I'm baffled!!!!!!!
