CHIEF Is Almost a 302!!!!!! 91 XLT SAS In the process of 302 and T-5 Swap!!

Hello,
No, I havent stopped working on it. I was waiting for the harness to be completed. I just got word today it is finished so I should be installing it soon, when I recieve it in the mail. I will get pics up and info about the harness. The Company doing the harness asked me not to disclose the price on the harness, he says, "They are still setting up a cost format on the harnesses. I will say though that it is on par with the other companies out there and seems to be a better deal, I will post that review when I recieve the harness.
As for the T-5 well I was trying to keep everything simple as possible and that is why I went with the t-5. There arent any adapters for retaining the stock T-case and driveshaft lengths if you go with a different tranny. I am going to get it beefed up like a race tranny and I think It will be fine. We will see...

I got the battery holder on Ebay for $125.00 including shipping. Just take a look on there you can find them fairly easy. Thanks for the compliment, I love it.

advance adapter ??'s

How is the installing of the tranny adapters going? Are the installing easily or is someone else doing it for you? How much $$ did the advance adapter kit cost, I went on their web site and couldn't get pricing. Do you have to buy the whole kit or did you just get the tranny kit.

The AA adapter for that tranny is 750.00 plus shipping. I paid extra for faster shipping and including shipping my total came out to $850.00 for the adapter. It was the whole kit. Comes with a lot of parts. The installation doesent look very difficult. I'll have more on that later. The directions for installations could much more thorough.

Whats the latest????

this guy is awesome. think about it he even gives us times on how long it took. thats dedication to this site for him to do all this for us. thanks man. now when your done ill bring mine over. lol your truck is awesome good job!!!

hey chief you said that your going to put in a 347 stroker right. well i have a 91 xl and im soon adding in a 347 stroker to it and a t5 tranny. but the main questions i have is did you have to trim the firewall or is it going to fit with no trimming and for the aa adapter i dont need the manual stuff cause i already have both gear shifter does it come with just the adapter and where did oyu get so i can do some researchon this. thanks alot man

Redrig,
Thanks alot. I try to give good detail so it will help anyone else out.

Zavaral,
The 5.0 block or 347 ci will fit without any firewall modifications. I went ahead and bent the firewall seam back so it was flat to give a lot more room. That is really all you have to do and it is very easy. I would suggest approaching it like I am..... That is installing the 302 and t-5 tranny first. Get it in, running right and smogged. After that then go ahead and stroke the engine to a 347 ci. That is just my suggestion though, it will save you alot of headaches. Anyway, As far as the adapter goes unless your truck is two wheel drive, you will have to get everything I did. There are a lot of pieces to the adapter because you are converting a 2 wheel drive tranny into a 4 wheel drive tranny. It will only work on the "T-5 Worlds" The standard t-5 will not be compatible with the adapter.
The two main components of the kit are the New Tailhousing shaft and the "adapter" You will need to purchase the shifter as well because it is made for the new tailshaft housing. The stock shifter will not work, it has a different shape on the lower part of the shifter that connects to the shift rail. It will not fit the grooves if it is not the right shifter. Anyway, Here is a pic of everything and if you have anymore questions just ask.
I will be getting to the tranny real soon so I will have a good right-up for all the t-5 wanna be's to make things easier for you. Later,
Tim

The entire stock tailshaft housing from the tranny is removed and replaced.
In this pic you can see on the left is the new tailshaft housing which is substantially shorter and puts the shifter in the correct place for the truck. The adapter is behind that and comes in two lengths for you depending on where you mount the engine and everything. If you do it right there is no need to even get your driveshafts modified. Everything goes right back into the correct locations. Amy more questions just ask.
Late,
Tim

Since you'll be doing the 4wd conversion i think, you will need the whole kit to work, which sucks cause thats alot of money. But i do believe that it comes with a whole lotta parts that go into it. I dunno where you can get them from AA probably has a website or something, but you can prolly find it cheaper somewhere else like 4wheelparts.com. hope this helps somewhat....

thanks

I checked everywhere, they all sell this at the same price. It is just the retail price from AA. I personally would get it straight from Advance Adapter like I did to make it easier if you have to return anything. Like I said it will be the same price anywhere so just order it straight from them. They are very helpful over the phone. It is very expensive but the only way to go if you are four wheel drive and wanting to use the T-5 tranny. Good luck Jason, anymore q's just ask.
Tim

There ya go Jason.

Did you get the new harness?

Sorry for the delay everyone. I have been waiting on the harness and lagging a little bit. UPS tracking says the harness will be here on tuesday! So it shouldnt be long. I just need to clean some stuff up in the mean time and get ready to put it in. I'll get good pics!
