Chrome parts around foglights on a '99

How do I remove the chrome part that goes arounf the foglights on my '99?

I want to remove it to paont it.

I tried to remove mine by unscrewing the three obvious screws that held it in. All I succeeded in doing was breaking several screws (from rust). The chrome piece got a little loose but something kept holding it in and I gave up. It might've helped to remove the foglight.

Someone posted on here about how they were able to remove it... if you're going to paint it anyway, you could try some aggressive sand paper. Maybe heat it up with a hair dryer? I seem to remember heat and light scraping

My guess would be to remove the fog light. I didn't see an other obvious screws when I had my bumper off. It may also be held in by retain clips?

It appears to be a separate part. Oh well, where there is a will ....

yeah I think it is seaparate, don't get me wrong.
My collision repair parts book ( which is rather extensive ) does not list that as a separate part.
It has been such a long time since I have been inside of one of those bumper covers the best I could give you a pure guess.

I think it is a combination of screws and tabs.
Screws on top and a slot tab thing on the bottom.

Just from vague memory.
If I can get a pic of the back side that may jarg my memory

No, it definitely a separate part; just haven't got it off yet.

I still haven't figured out how to remove the darn chrome things and my patience is wearing thin, so I decided to remove the chrome, finish sand, prime, and paint while still installed on the truck.

It works well to put the truck up on ramps and sit in a chair while doing the work.

I used the propane torch trick to remove the chrome. It worked well, In some spots, too well and distorted/melted the plastic requiring some body filler and a lot more sanding. But alas, it s starting to look good again. I have only done the drivers side so far. Wonder how one chrome and one flat black will look?

The chrome is extremely difficult to remove from the edges. I am still not sure how I am going to finish that task. Any ideas?

Note the edges; thats where I need to get the chrome off.
