I have a 1998 2WD explorer with a 5.0 v8. What is the easiest, simplest way to lift my truck with no body lift, so it will clear 35"s all the way around?

Thank you in advance.

also, any pictures of this setup?

This isnt really "lifting" it but if you cut the fenders enough, you should be able to clear 35"s - thats the cheapest solution. But other than that, maybe some 2wd spindles + torsion twist for the front, and SOA in the back.

im about to do an SOA and spindle+TT on a 2000 5.0 2wd. I already bought 35's because i got a good deal on them. if it doesnt fit well im going to add a body lift on top

There are fiberglass fenders but im not sure what you will be able to fit with those but no lift

im no expert but i say 2" tt, shackles and then cut away what you need to from the fenders to fit.

Your going to want to watch the back spacing on your rims and width of the rims along with the width on your tires. if you went with around 4" BS on rims that are 15x8 with a 34x9.5 or a 35x10.5

With that less trimming is going to be needed after spindles, TT, and SOA. The wider the tires. And the more offset added to the rims (anything over 3.75+) and the wider the rim the more trimming and the more impossiable it will get. Alot of people over look rims back spacing, tire width and rim width when it comes to fitment of tires. Even on this site I see it over looked.
My suggestion is a skinny tire. With the above rim size and spec's is the only way your going to get them to fit with out a BL. Fitting 33's requires trimming let alone 35's.

Good luck and post pictures when your done.

What will need to be cut is basically a removal of your fenders. Running tt/shackles as well as 2" Body Lift, still needed to trim just to fit 33"s.

35's---not possible.

IZwack--man I still Jefe's truck! 35's are definitely possible, many are running them, but not possible with only a "tt/shackles" as slow suggested:

"im no expert but i say 2" tt, shackles and then cut away what you need to from the fenders to fit."

Before body lift I put on 32's with only a tt/shackles. Had to remove the front valance and corner tupperware just to make it home from the tire shop. Luckily they werent busy, gave me some tools, let me remove the plastics, and said "man you are nuts those tires are never gonna fit...." So from my experience, 35's with only a tt/shackles wouldnt happpen without removing front fenders. 2nd gen Ex's all seem to differ on what tires fit stock (for example I ran 31x11.50's fine stock-others can barely clear 31x10.50's) but 35's - I would have to see it to believe it.

You're right - forgot about the BL.

This is the exact look I'm going for. Everything is perfect on this truck. Do those look like 33"s or 35"s?:

Just FYI, heres a pic of my truck thats gonna get the lift:

Also, if I DID have to go with a body lift, is that necessarily a bad thing? Ive always heard to stay away from body lifts, but not sure how detrimental it really is. Any input on this would be appreciated

Well, with the ifs setup on 2nd gens, a body lift is better IMO. You gain ground clearance with larger tires. To be able to fit the larger tires you can do a suspension lift, or a body lift. Or trim, but we'll forget about that for now. A suspension lift drops the front diff and t-bar mounts down using drop brackets. A body lift lifts the body up. Wish a suspension lift, you are paying like almost 10 times as much as a body lift, and you aren't getting any more clearance underneath the truck than a body lift of the same amount, running the same sized tires.

I'm no chassis engineer though, and I don't play one on tv. Just my $.02

your all forgetting he said this is 2wd. There for a easy spindle lift is also an option. along with a TT. plus the SOA in the rear and hes rite around 5" all around. some trimming and 35's are possiable.

We didnt forget. First reply:

The problem with a BL is if you decide at some point you want to put Torque Monsters on they won't work with a BL.

Im interested in this. Can somebody educate me on Spindle Lifts and how they work?

The position I am in is right now my truck needs to tires (they are bald) and it needs new shocks (it has 130,000 miles on it and the shocks have never been replaced)

By my logic, I want to go ahead and fork out the extra money since these things need to be replaced anyways, and go with a lift + 35" tires.

So, on a spindle lift, do the shocks get replaced anyways? If I can't get a lift that wont quite clear 35"s, I guess 33"s wouldn't be too bad. I just want to get my truck up in the air and put some big tires on it!

Correct me if Im wrong...but as far as the rear goes, all I need to do is get shackles and shocks to get it up in the air?

Any help would be appreciated. I cant imagine all this costing too much considering its just a 2wd. I know guys that lifted their Rangers pretty big for less than $1500 or so.

However I do want this setup to be dependable and durable, nothin jimmy-rigged haha
