Clif's 96 Explorer Eddie Bauer Progress Thread

I will request some info. Curious about the NAV, I know free, but do I have to piggyback of my phone to determine location?

Thanks for the info, which is the one you have 6.2 or 7?

Thanks again
I have a 7", because all my music is on an SD card and I prefer a larger screen. Nav works completely without a phone, the issue is downloading your maps. It has an excellent GPS accuracy, better than Garmin. There is a small GPS antenna that I leave on the corner of my dash, but it could probably be hidden too.

Nice big screen too.

The big deal though is to have forscan, and have a near dealer level scan tool right in your dash. I had it in for inspection and the Ford Tech was quite impressed! You can put up gauges that monitor things like 4x4 electromagnetic clutch engagement.

Well I know what I will do a little later down the road. Sounds like this is the way to go. DL Maps shouldn't be a problem.

Just ordered the headlights, so a few more things then will look into the radio upgrade! Thanks again for all the information. BTW, I did find a woodgrain bezel on ebay, and I may upgrade to that as well. I like the way it looks

I think I replaced my hood struts with the Strong Arm brand. Fit fine. Work fine.

My local Carquest has them in stock for $33.52/pair using coupon code NY22 (22% off)
Went with the Strong Arm 4026. Got a great deal from a friend who got them for wholesale, $25 I think he said.

Headlights / Cornering lights ordered. Went with 1A Autos due to good reviews, and I could get them all at once. Less chance of goofing up, I hope. Will hopefully have them Monday

Put on the passenger rear door handle today, not difficult at all. Took maybe 15-20 minutes.
Headlights were going to be installed today, but that turned into a night mare. The adjustment screws were a pain. The pigtails broke where the bulbs go into the cornering lamp (just the clips on the side) and I froze my buttocks. Will try to get the drivers side done next weekend, or take them to a local shop.

Drivers Side lamps went in this morning. MUCH easier the second time.

Well, as an IT guy thankfully I can actually be useful for a second, If you can replace the cigarette lighter in your dash panel, then I have the perfect Bluetooth to FM radio adapter for ya! I use it every time I need to go somewhere in the truck, and it has yet to fail me.

Whatcha got? I have more than one friend also looking for a solution and I would rather pass along information from someone who has used /owns one

I have one of these! https://www.amazon.com/iClever-Wireless-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Controller/dp/B015MGRO64

It uses bluetooth, and it's not one of those massive bluetooth adapters that you see everywhere that looks like it's gonna rip your socket out. You tilt it back and forth to skip songs and push it (the whole thing is a button) to play or pause, and if that's not enough there's a remote too. It looks nice in my dash panel! Do ya want me to grab a picture of it tomorrow when I head off to school?

No, but I appreciate the link. Have quite a few people I will be sending it to! Thanks!

Cool! It's a nice little thing, I've only had it since october, but other than one or two times it's unpaired from my phone it works great! Even in the carwash when they take off the antenna, too.

Installed the "lighter fix kit" from foster. Worked like a charm. Now I gotta figure out what is wrong with the lighter itself. I know, I should have checked it before I buttoned it up. I have checked the fuse, have to dig out my meter and see if it works, or just stop and grab a lighter on the way home.

Check out the Motorola Sonic Rider visor mounted blue tooth. I got it for the wife's 2007 Ford Freestyle since it has 6 disc and factory nav.

It clups to visor, has 5 month battery life on continual stand by, excllent sound quality for calls, nav (if you need it to through your phone) and can stream music.

The later im too much of an audiophile to use. Its 70 bucks sold at target or amazon.

Are you talking about this thing? https://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Sonic-Rider-Bluetooth-Speakerphone/dp/B00BP8WLAS

if so, does it even use the car speakers or its own? (Cause it looks like it's got one)

Also... I doubt you could fit 6 CDs in that thing, unless you got creative about it!

This will be the last post on this thread from me. I have upgraded to a 2018 XLT. The 96 still lives in my local area
