should , but don't quote me on this as you may also need wheel spacers for correct 5xto 5xto conversion etc...

yea, but i thought that explorers had 5x4.5 lug pattern as well as the mustang

The bolt pattern should match fine as I ran a set of 17X8 wheels off of a '95 GT. I did have to run a 3/16" spacer on the fronts to make it work well.

Forgot to metion that was on my '98 sport... :D

You can do it without spacers if you have the right tire.

My brother is running yokohoma Geolanders and doesnt need spacers anymore.

ok, thanks guys for the help. are those 17's in the picture? and does anybody know how deep the rear fender well is? or could it hold a 10.5 ' wide rim?

I have 17x9's all around with 275 60's

There is very slight rubbing in the rear fender wells, as well as on the front sway bar at full turn-

pictures are in my sig-

My '98 is also running a 1 1/2" drop all around so that may have factored into the need for spacers as well. I run 255/55/17 Contintentals (Plus 1 config).

it depends on the tire width, before the geolanders he had Pirelli scorpions 255/55/17 and it did require spacers.

All in the width of the tire. Now it clears but just barely. I think its 235/55/17 but dont take my word for it.

I have 22 x 9.5s with 265/35/22s and the only place they rub is on the front sway bar at full lock.

morphiuss, i have a set of eagle alloys(cobra replica just like yours) on 17's but i want to put a set of off road tires i have a 96 limited do you think i can put them on without any lift and what would be the max tire size i can get on 17's without any rubbing. thanks

I got '03 cobra's (17x9) with Toyo 275/55/r17 and had a few issues. On the front I had to "clearance" the lower control arm to not hit the rim and it still rubs sway bar with 1/2" spacer. The rear has 1/8" spacer and had to relocate my parking brake cable inboard. My Bullit's have less issues due to the different backspacing!

ok so what i understand is that the height its not the problem but the wide of the tires??? because i think my eagle alloys are 17X10 so i will need to a spacer right?

Since I ran a 17X9 Mustang GT wheel with a 255/55R/17 Continental I did have to run a 3/16" spacer on the front to turn lock to lock. Check the backspacing on those 17X10 Cobra wheels as that may play into whether or not you need a spacer.

Sorry about the delay but my DSL was down for a couple of days.

I drove by my work today and i saw a 97 or 98 Expo black and silver sitting on 97s cobra. Now its not that they were cobras that caught my attension, Its that he had the cut out or holes painted black, and the wheel finished was polished not chrome so it just matched really good with the ride

While they may physically fit, I doubt the rims have the same strength or load rating as explorer rims. You need rims that can take 850kg each (that's around 2000lb). The Mustang rims are more likely to be rated at 700kg (1550lbs) so if you can get them to fit, and use them, and then one collapses, don't say you weren't warned.

Factory car wheels are stronger than many of the cheap aftermarket car wheels that people are bolting onto trucks that you see every day. I liked my Cobra wheels on my 98, but I still plan to use them for my Mark VII. Regards,
