Code readers are not specific to car make because of the "OBD" standard. Actron make decent code readers. I have one and it's helped me out a few times. I have this one. Got it for under $100/shipped via an eBay seller.

If you don't want to pay for a scanner, supposedly "Autozone" will do it for free.

There are code readers and there are scanners. before you buy, do some research. I did a thread comparing them a year or two ago, and within that thread were pictures and explainations, and most importantly a zillion other links to manufacturer's sites. Here is a link to that thread:

As you will see, there are many many different kinds and varieties out there. Also it will matter if you are 95 and older or 95 and newer. OBD-I vs. ODB-II. Enjoy.

I'd second Al's comment. A scanner is way more valuable than a simple reader. If you can afford the difference in price, go scanner.

If you can't I have an actron I'm looking to get rid of off, only used it a hand ful of times. PM or something if your intrested further

I have a Matco M-1000 ( #? ) and it is fantastic.
It tells me every thing but what color my Explorer is.
You can get it for under a grand too.

Monmix is that the Matco version of the NGS?

My kingdom for a FORD NGS tester (avalable on E-bay for about $1500! OW)

I mean with the NGS you can fully take over control of your computer and engine... you can even dial in transmission line pressures to test! Way cool.

nah, it is the OTC Genesis with a Matco lable.
