I have seen all the posts latley about colored lights and such, so I thought I would give it a shot and see what it looks like. While I was at Pep-Boys today I was walking but the interior isle and saw these small colored bulbs. They are made by Victor, modle number 194B or R (B for blue, R for red). I got the blue ones. They took 2 minutes to install, and then I waited for night fall. They look awesome! Pretty nice work for only 2.50 and 2 minutes!!

do they light up the license plate enough to see the numbers? i'm just wondering what the cops will care about this little modification....

Yeah, they light it up pretty well. I walked across the coldesac (no clue how to spell that) and I could see it from just as far. I was up at the mall tonight and I had a cop behind me while I was leaving, but he didn't do anything. I was pretty nervous while he was back there though, because I didn't know if he was going to pull me or not. But I guess that it lights it up enough so that he wouldn't bug me. Oh, by the way, thanks for your responce on the kkm air filter, I just didn't post again on there.

Thanks,
Chris

no problem, i'll go pick some blue bulbs up tomorrow!
now i want to do the dome light and the door lights but i cant find the size bulbs i need for that..oh well, i guess wishful thinking

Turner, I tried putting these bulbs in the dome light as well, and they fit but aren't that bright. They make a multi pack that has the big bulb (higher wattage), two of the licence plate bulbs and the long skinny one for the read dome light. I'm not sure how much they are, but I think I am going to pick those up as well. They are made by the same company, I think, and are in the same isle at Pep-Boys.

Good Luck,
Chris

Instead of buying the light bulbs or for light bulbs you cannont find you can take a vis a vee (spelling?) or a Dry erase marker and color the glass part of the light bulb. The dry erase work better. You just hold by the metal part and completly cover the
bulb(s). When you color it, it may have some streaks but when you put it in you cannot tell. Also if for some reason you decide that you dont want it any more it will wipe off.

Hope this helps.

Just make sure you get the bulbs with the colored glass because those dont sound like them. The 2.50 ones were painted bulbs and I got the APC colored glass bulbs for like a dollar more. Loko around and make sure unless you want to keep buying new bulbs. Same goes for the interior bulbs.

I got the red! I looks nice one time following My Explorer while my daughter was driving it. It looks like an additional tail light enough to light the license plate Dead Link Removed May I'll try the blue this time. Dead Link Removed

I like that idea with using the dry erase marker for the other lights. I might try that on my interior to see how it works. And thanks for letting me know about the painted bulbs, Ryan, I think next time I got there I will see if they are painted or not, and then if they are see if they have colored glass bulbs.

Thanks a bunch,
Chris

ok, just went and bought some blue ones from discount auto...advanced auto had the vector ones and then i decided to go to discount to see if they had the A1 ones that are colored glass...they had this brand i havent heard of so i got those (which i think are painted) b/c i didnt want to go back to advanced...vector's gotta be painted b/c the vector's were cheaper than the ones i got...oh yeah, i just tried to install them and in the process of trying to get the stupid face off the bumper i separated BOTH of the plastic part and the thing that holds the bulbs...so the glue's drying as we type...hopefully stronger than it was originally...b/c it didnt take much to separate em...about the colored glass ones, i've seen those all over the internet, but never in auto parts stores...i wonder why that is? pep boys decided that good ole mississippi wasnt good enough for them so we dont have one, but puerto rico does...you heard right...puerto rico has a pep boys and mississippi doesnt...screw pep boys is what i say. whew, just had to get that off my chest

Man, no pep boys in Mississippi? Wow, I guess you'd just have to say screw them. As for the licence plate lights, good luck, hope you don't get pulled. I guess there is a difference in the two, because mine seem to be bright enough... I've been known to be wrong, but ya never know. I stoped by pep.... uhh an auto part store today (won't mention that it was pep boys... oops). Anyway I went there to get the hinge latch for my door and I picked up some lights for the inside as well. I put them in both of the dome lights and in the glove box. I want to put them in the ash tray, and maybe behind the dash lights, but that might be over doing it!

Good luck,
Chris

ok...first pep boys and then the bulbs....FIRST OF ALL, pep boys doesnt even make it so you can order online...and then they waste money on a store in puerto rico and they wont put one in ms(i mean, come on...all these rednecks down here, including myself, have pieces of crap cars, not including myself, that always need fixin and pepsters will make a lot of money!) back to the bulbs, i guess the vector's are brighter, but i'll order some online that are colored glass so they'll last longer...but about the dome light....how did you find the bulb for that? in the manual it says 9** something bulb fits the dome...which bulb is it?

Just A Warning!
You can be stopped for the blue lights. Dead Link Removed A lot of cops proably don't realy care or have better things to do, but the law states that the lights on the rear of a vehicle MUST be red or red and amber. Therefore if the cop needs an excuse to pull you over he can. Dead Link Removed Like I said most wont, but there always the chance that one will. States where it is legal to run blue dot taillights may be less apt to enforce the issue, but I know for a fact that here in Arizona they will stop you. Dead Link Removed

mrboyle-my friend has seen cars with blue dot lights here in tucson. I was thinking of getting some, but I guess nevermind. Just to be on the safe side.

Well, any plug in light will go in the dome light (the same ones for the licence plate lights will work). That is all I used. I couldn't find a big blue bulb like the original bulb in it. The little one works well, a little dimmer than the rear bulb though. If I come across a big blue (or any other coler bulb), I will let you know. mrboyle, is that law for all states? And would it apply to the licence plate lights as well? They are orginaly clear, and the blue ones light up the plate just about the same.

man i must be getting some sucky bulbs or something, because mine dont light it up hardly at all....and another thing, i've seen a lot of those neon license plate frames or whatever, i wonder if they get pulled over...in my opinion that's worse than the lights...

------------------
'93 explorer sport 4x4

Well the dome light isn't very bright. It's very blue. It leaves a blue luster throughout the car. As far as the neon licence plate lights, I haven't seen many around here (I guess VA is very **** about that stuff), but I would think that they would be a lot worse.
