I have a 1978 Scout that I bought in 1996 with great expecations of mods. To make a long story short, Life got in the way, and it's not done.

I have a 1994 TBI 350 out of a half-ton Chevy van (bought it in 96). It has 20,000 miles on it. I have 1992 NV4500, Lakewood scattershield, and NP241C Right-hand-drop transfer case.

The Scout has rebuilt Dana 44 axles with 4.11 gears and ARB airlockers front and rear.

I come here pondering scrapping the Scout and building an Explorer. I want to do a 1994 only, because that is the year of the engine I have. Also, I know the AC in the 94's worked great with R-134. I owned a 94 Explorer in 94 -- sold it to buy the Scout after taking it deer hunting and getting scratches on it.

I have to meet federal emissions with a strict visual inspection. Will the engine from the half-ton van be fine or did the Explorer have to meet stricter than half-ton requirements?

Do Scout axles make good candidates for Explorer swaps?

Will the TBI 350 fit in the engine bay?

Should I just finish the Scout?

I'm not sure if I've seen anyone do a right side drop swap in an explorer yet. About the parts you have fitting, you'll probably have to do a lot of fab work to get things working right. Although I do like the Scouts, if you have the time and money, I say go for the swap.
