Hey whats up fellow Explorer owners. About 4 months ago i bought a '94 Explorer Sport and i just love the feeling i get when i drive it. Its big like a truck but can carry people in it too. Its a 5-speed manual and is hellafun to drive. I've taken it offroad a bit just to do douhnuts in some flatland mud. Thats gotta be the most addicting thing in the world. I havn't been stuck and i've been in some pretty muddy places with it. Its so light its almost hard to get stuck if you can keep some momentum up. The only thing it needs to make it ultimate is 4x4 (along with some other things ubt we won't go there). Does anybody know if they make kits to convert it to 4x4? I know all the electronics are right behind the panel where the switch goes, and all the dummy lights are there. If they don't make a kit what exactly would I have to take from a junkyard and about how much would this cost? Please help me. I really want this Explorer to meet its highest potential.

all you need is a tcase and a front axle, driveshafts etc out of an explorer... its all bolt in from there...

so not that hard to get all that stuff put in after finding it from pick n pull?

it's an involved swap.. and is going to be costly. you'll need all the 4wd wiring and computer and the dash switch.

t-case
complete front axle beams
front driveshaft
either a 4wd transmission or have a new extension housing and output shaft put on yours

it can and has been done but it can get expensive.

You could put in a manual transfer case. This would save the cost of the electronics, but you would not have "shift on the fly 4WD".

If you decide to stay 4X2, you could gain some improvement by careful tire selection and adding a locker to the rear differential.

Well thanks for all the advice guys I still have yet to decide what to do. Could anybody give me the names of some good websites to buy explorer offroad parts from?

Don't know a website in particular. You can check the for sale forum on this site. There is always people parting out an Explorer. BTW, I laughed for about 5 minutes when I first saw your screen name. Funny stuff.

Thanks man. I play Halo 2 online on my xbox and i get a lot of comments on that name there too. My Sport is all stock from 94 that I know of. I bought it used and I just recently had to replace the clutch and flywheel (my 1st standard) so there was $300 gone but hey **** happens. My goal is to 1st of all get it leveled b/c i hate the way it leans forward. I really wanna get it lifted 3 inches and get some mud terrains on it but i'm a high school burger flipper so money is the issue with me. This is my 1st car and I don't think i will ever own anything besides a Ford. In the future i'm either gonna get a newer explorer or an F-150. I bought this and it was pretty much love at 1st sight. I thank you guys for responding to this you guys are awesome.

Check the search feature for a f-150 coil spacer and shackle lift. I don't like them, but you could always do a 3" body lift. Those are pretty damn cheap and it'll get you up 3" to fit 33s with some trimming and hammering to the firewall. Good luck.

Part numbers for the spacers from the dealer:

F2TZ5A307A Ford Coil Spring Seat
F2TZ5A307B Ford Coil Spring Seat

Someone on here said they were like $35 bucks from the dealer. They are from a 97 2wd F-150 and they give you about 1 5/8" lift in the front. After that you could do a 2" or 3" body lift. That would be your cheapest lift to get some 32" to 33" tires on there.

Wiring harness is already present in the dash behind the fake HVAC vent :D

I'm not trying to nitpick on ya or anything doug

The wiring behind the dash may be there but I bet the wiring from the 4wd computer to the transfer case as well as the wiring harness for the transfer case isnt there. Interior wiring is universal regardless of model, I know the dash wiring is there.

ya if I can't afford the 4x4 i'll just buy the switch for ***** and giggles and just pretend i have 4x4, that should be funny
