Cruise control turns theft light on and car off? - HELP!

SO recently I unplugged my cruise control plug (on accident) and ever since then, when i try to set my cruise control it flashes my battery light, then my theft light, and then either turns my car off completely and I have to pull over w/o power steering and restart my car or just shuts off the cruise control. This is a pain in the ass, and i have tried unplugging my battery for an extended period of time to reset it, but no difference.

It is a 2002 ford explorer xls.. Any help is aprreciated!

Are you sure you plugged the plug in the right way? I would imagine it only goes one way but I have been able to mess up some of them myself... Also is it tight? No loose wires when plugged in?
