ok so a friend of mine has these crystal subs (2) 12's. RMS is 800 watts and peak power is 1600. These subs retail at around $500 each. He wants to sell me these 2 subs in a custom 2.5 cu foot enclosure for $500 (thats it) i'm thinking it sounds like a steal-these subs were used for about 2 months w/out a lot of wear and tear-they look great. I was thinking-sell my Alpine type R's and buy these. One question though-would my amp be able to handle 2 subs that require 800 watt RMS power? The impedance is dual 2 ohms. Well heres the link tell me if everything would be ok if i powered 2 of these with a BD1500.1 by Fosgate: http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/CRYCMPX212

-thanks for all/any input

no one has any opinions?

There was 26min between your posts, people don't respond that quickly! relax

sorry just kinda anxious! :smoke:

I think the fosgate should do just fine:D

Foget about peak power, that dosent really tell a single thing about the Subs ability to handle power. Usually you would want to power the sub 2/3rds its power so that would put the crystals handling close to 500-600 watts each. Those Crystals are DUAL 2 OHM which can be wired either in 1OHM or 4OHM and when 2 of them are wired they would create a 2 ohm resitsance witch would be perfect for the 1500WATTS! Each of the Crystals would be getting pretty close their their handling capicty. Might wanna downgrade the amp because I'v heard that the RF are underated by at least 100Watts when your talking about 1500Watts.

The bd1500 is
750Watts @ 4 OHMS
1500Watts @ 2 OHMS

I would consider the 1000BD since its 1000x1 @ 2ohms, so its probally close to 1200Watts or more in reality. Its cheaper and will supply your subs with 600+Watts (plently, but not enough to blow them).

ya you are right the Fosgate is underated-the certificate that came with my amp says it was tested at 1735 watts. So downgrade huh? Would a Performance Teknique icbm779 do the job-it's a 1200 watt max amp it's sitting in my closet and hasn't been used yet, i was trying to sell it but didn't have any takers. Think that would be better?

Im dont really know anything about Crystal, except they are expensive, so they must be good. You could use the RF to power the Crystals but just keep the power down, make sure they are worn in, and keep the distoration out of the picture. When or If you get distortion thats when theres more power than the subs can handle. You could try out your Performance Teknique although Ive never heard about them. See how that and the RF does, whichever works better in your setup keep, and sell the other. Im sure you would sell the RF since they are a BIG name manufacture.

You know what, since youve already got a GOOD amp (the RF) I would power the Crystals anyways. You would really be powering the subs 65Watts over if you went to the amps max. And from past times listening to a real 600Watts in a car, that was LOUD! I havent yet listened to 1500+WATTS but I wanna :). Let us know how it goes. Do you have any pictures? Show us some when your project is compleated. If you need any more help just post it.

ok well my friend is coming over tonight (saturday) so we can put the Crystals in. I will power them with the Teknique for a little while maybe a couple weeks to a month-just to break them in-then we'll see how good they do with the Fosgate. As of right now i don't have a digi-cam but my family might be getting one for Christmas (by that time i should be using the Fosgate) and then i can post pics.

woodys come over my house in like 2 weeks and you can hear 2400watts on one 15 ;]

what kind of an amp are you going to be using to power your 15" sub? by the way what kind of sub is it?

UPDATE-i have only one 12" Crystal Competition in my box(it sounds as good, if not better than the 2 type R's) i bridged a Performance teknique amp (1200 watts) to push it and it sounds great-i'm just waiting right now one the other sub-my friends kinda lazy and he only brought one-in a couple days i should have 2 two Crystal 12's in and then we'll see how fast my hearing goes........lol........oh ya and another thing-the magnet on these 12's is unbelieveable-twice, almost 3 times the size of the type R magnet!!!!!!!!!!

im sure you got past this part already, and ill probably be talking to no one here.....but with the rf amp, and 2 dual 2 ohm subs wouldn't you be running a perfect 2ohm load, or crazy .5 ohm load, or a stupid 8 ohm load? im not sure but someone said you could run 1 or 4 ohm load, and that wouldn't be possible with those subs....

just had to point that out....:)

sorry.....didn't read woodys WHOLE post.....:p
