cv axle replacement?

so it turns out my axle is on its way out the door. i have to do the passenger side cv next week. i looked on partsamerica.com and autozone and i cant seem to find the actual axle. all i could find was the boot quick kit. does anyone know the part number and also a link to a thread for replacing the axle? i thought there was some kind of snap ring that i needed a special tool for but my friend told me its not necessary. thanks in advance

your best bet is to buy the axle assembly.

no special tool required.
may just need to (carefully) pry the shaft out between the cv and tube.

am i supposed to do both axles at the same time, even though only one is bad?

no reason to do both, if only 1 is bad


and yes, it is fairly easy.
last time I did it, I completed the dri. side in just under 45 min, and pass side in around 30 min.

I did not have to remove the knuckle, wheel bearing. or tie-rod; made it a bit tougher, but I managed. All I did was disconnect the upper control arm from the knuckle.
