I have just bought a black 03 limited with 4.6. The ABS warning light and engine emission lights are on.

I took it to a local auto store to have the codes read. He can't get a read out of the OBD port under the dash. Doesn't get power from it either.

I drive away and notice the warning lights are both gone.

Couple days later I get it serviced at my local Ford dealer. They can't get a read from the OBD port and say "oh well". Could be 5 minutes or 5 hours to fix.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Check the fuse first.

Do you have a remote starter installed? I've seen them screw with the OBD ports and not be able to read anything from them.

There's no remote starter and the Cigarette lighter charges my phone...

Is your Au Explorer equipped with a lighter socket? (Page 51)

Are you possibly charging your phone from the 12V power point?

Did you check the #24 fuse?

Thanks for that advice. Fuse checked and replaced. I'll get another OBD check tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

All good! Now I just have to fix the problems the codes have brought up!

C1440 abs brake pressure difference transducer circuit failure - defective.

And:

P0300 random misfire
P0304 misfire no 4 cylinder
P0316 missing after starting
P0340 cam p/S malfunction

Any tips for young players?
