delta cam rocker arms trashed

One thing I noticed is that with felpro lower intake gaskets, the lower intake already sits a bit higher than it should. Then, being under the service limit (In my case, shaving .02 off) the lower intake sits even higher. In my case, Im considering shaving my lower intake a bit to make a flush mounting surface for the valve covers. Question is...Whats 'a bit'?

Only reason I'm posting this is that I think its relevant to all of us.

u know ive never given alotta thought to that, thats smart thinkin. I use fel pro gaskets... Do you think the fel pro head gaskets are any thicker than any other one and could perhaps make up for the lower intake? Do you mean the gasket thickness in like the center right, not the rubber seal parts?
Because I actually have my original crushed ford LIM gasket and a crushed fel pro one, I should measure them with a mic. and report back tomorow.

edit: damnet you beat me

My lower intake sat a bit high as soon as I used the Felpro gaskets. Id sure love to figure out how much is safe to shave off the sides of my lower intake, but shave to much and you have BIG trouble.

Geometry isn't my strong suit. Id think shaving .005 off each side would be safe, but would it be enough?

well since this is related to, well all of this, Do you guys follow the haynes/fel pro torque procedure where you torque the heads in sequence with the LIM or do you all just torque the heads up and then do the intake like the heads were never off? I remember reading a thread where someone was saying you dont have to torque them in sequence and had a ford master tech as his reference

Torque in sequence.
If the heads are going back on, torque heads, and lower intake bit by bit in sequence. Manual says to, and its always better to be safe.

If your not pulling heads, and only lower intake, no choice. Have to just do lower intake using sequence of bolt tightening suggested by felpro (If using felpro gasket)

Thats the way I have always done it, and never had a problem. I was just curious because it would be a hell of a lot easier if you could do them seperate cause I always feel like im racing the rtv on the intake gasket. Last time my torque wrench batteries died and I had to run inside and I couldnt find any. thankfully i had the good ol faithful clicker lyin around

Anything else?? Hahahah :):););)

I love that lil sheet. Beats trying to read out of haynes cause then you knock the book over and it closes. When I was pulling my heads I wanted the sequence to go in reverse and my new gaskets werent here yet, yeah it was on the floor under the table and somehow I knew it was there

update

So all my parts finally came the other day, so i put it all back together and last night she fired up. The start up clatter is gone, theres still a touch of piston slap u can hear when the idle settles but truck is still cold, didnt expect it to go away. So today i gotta finish it up and drive it to make sure all is good but i figured id post an update. Will i ever know whether the clatter was rockers or lifters? Probably not, but im just glad its gone and now its time for paint. Thanks for all you alks help and advice.

Glad she back running

Thanks man, now gotta come up with paint cash and shell be purty

Nice when a plan comes together.

So just when i think all is good, shes giving me starting problems. Now ive searched/read othrr threads about this but im adding to this one due to none of the other ones are after performing extensive engine work. So this morning i start the truck and its fine. Im like damn my jackets in my other explorer. Shut it off, unlock my 91, and go to restart it. It cranks strong but dont start. Im like ****, so i pop the hood and chek connectors and all looks good, cycle key 4 times trying to hear for the fuel pump and its there, crank it and it sputters to a start and runs fine all the way to work. Now it starts finr the first time but has a hard time restarting if you shut it off. Fuel filter fairly new and it runs great when it starts, any ideas besides a fuel pump, i havnt had a chance to get fuel pressure readings but it just seems strange after all that work. Thanks in advance

O and to add this happened/ happens more when baked in my driveway front at a small decline. Its got a half of tank of fuel and usually wont not start unless im pushin empty

Im not sure just how bad your not wanting to srart condition is, but mine does the same thing.

If i start the motor from cold, and kill the ignition in...say...under 30 seconds, then try a restart fairly quickly. I have to crank the starter for a few extra revolutions for it to start. Its something odd enough that I have noticed it, but just figured it was a behavior of my motor.

Well when it did it yesterday morning it literally wouldnt start. About four 10 second cranking times and nothing. And i agree with you dono mine has always kinda done. that but more if i cranked and let off too soon and then tried again. But this is different, it sounds like a fuel problem to me but it hasnt been bad enough again to where i have time to check for the obvious

I cant see it being anything you did. It must be a new issue.
odd, Im not sure where to even start troubleshooting. I cant see it being fuel pressure, but who knows?
