Is/has anybody ran Firestone Destination Mt's? I'm thinking of getting a set of 265/75 r16's for my '97 Sport. THe dealer went down to $880 installed for all four, so I though that was a pretty good price, (this is Canadian prices). Any comments on this type of tire? Traction, wear, etc.

I know a guy with a Chevy 1500 that ran them for a long time. They are ranked #1 at tirerack.com I believe in the mud tire section. Supposedly a really good tire. I'm not sure if that's a good price cause of Canadian, but I would expect them to be around $700 - 800 in American currency. Try them out if you like them. (I run bridgestone dueler MT's and love them - I recommend them if you wanna go with a firestone/bridgestone tire)

the firestone destitnation mud terrains will be the only firestones that will ever be on any truck i ever own....

thats if i go the firestone route.. i personally like genneral grabber m/ts .... our cost is $96 for a 33x12.5x15 :)

Wow!

Not bad looking! But there still Firestones!:p

Thanks to those of you have posted replies on this thread, but I am suprized with the negativity towards Firestone, and I can only asume that it is in regards to the Firestone Wildernss AT recall a few years back. I thought I would give my opinion on the subject since it has been raised. First off, from my understanding, it was Ford's f*#k up, not Firestone. Ford posted a recomended psi on the door jam of all the effected units that was lower than the recommended psi of 45 which was on the tire itself. This lower psi caused an increased strain on the sidewalls, and resulted in the tread comming off, usually in climates of very high temperatures, such as Arizona. I am from Canada, and have not yet heard of any of these occurances do to our lower climate. My 2nd point is, do you really think that a large corporation such as Ford would pay for a recall of this magnitude when it wasn't there error? I highly doubt it. I'm sure there has been sufficient debate on this topic, but since I am new here, I have not had the chance to put in my 2 cents.

If you run ANY other tire below recommended PSI, its not going to fall apart like the Firestone POS's did.

Um, they pulled the tires off.............the rollovers stopped. Never seen a "recommended" tire psi on a tire.

But, I personally loved my Wilderness ATs. They were an around great tire for the price.

well while we're at it. . . Firestone tires are crap. Ask anyone thats switch from firestone tires to another brand. The are a super hard rubber so they provide a rough ride, and when used offroad chip. After the few months I had my firestones and offroaded you couldn't tell what the tread pattern was there were so many chips out of 'em.
And while fords 26 psi is probably too low, its not a problem for other tires. As for running the tires MAX pressure. . .well I hope you enjoy the horrible ride and bad tire wear.

And now back to the topic of the thread:
Those look like nice tires. The question is how hard the rubber is, which will determine how quiet they are, how well they wear, and amount of traction.

I have ran the remington MuD Brute 33x12.50 and for the price this is one impressive tire!

I paid less than $90 ea for them and they last and last. Best of all they work great off road, even aired down. They grip and the sidewalls have help up to everyhting so far.

This already has many of the "name brand" tires I have run beat, for less than 1/2 the cost. I would run them again but I would have the center lugs siped for better wear and traction.

other then the whole recall thing with the Wilderness AT's

i've heard good things about most Bridgestone/Firestone tires

and the Dueler's are just plain awesome!

ok burgo

Firestone tires we're the problem not the trucks. Firestone had problems with tires on many other vehicles too. Toyotas, Chevys and other Fords to name a few.

You should go with the PSI on the tire. NOT the PSI on the door.

You ask many, many people who have had blow outs with there Explorers on this site and they did't roll over. Rick himself I belive surived one and so did my wife.

Sorry but yes there is alot of negativity tords firestones on this site. But did you really expect anything else from a bunch of Explorer owners?:(

Jefe, have you ever owned a bridgestone/firestone tire or are you just talking about what some enraged hick told you about an experience he had with them? This is funny to me since I'm driving around on them now and they are a hell of A LOT softer than my BFG AT's and SUPER quiet and VERY good treadwear. Also, on tirerack the distination mt is ranked #1 mud tire and the dueler at #1 AT, how can this be? Must be everybody enjoying their tires riding like iron.

Who cares about firestone at issue, wasn't that... dealt with a long time ago. Those tires sucked, wow, so did most of the drivers that rolled it with a blowout. If Ford's recommended PSI and the tires did not match, and the tires were crap..... wasn't it..... both of their faults....

A buddie of mine has the Destinations. We have been up hunting in the woods in Maine and never got stuck there or in the snow Ice storms on the way and back from there. Except for the 5-6 ' drifts going into the woods. But my son and I have also been stuck in those drifts with many different brands of tires.
They seem to be wearing ok too. He has 4 of them on his 4 WD and they seem a little noisy but that should be expected from such a agressive tire.
Nice tires!
BTW: Tires usually have a maximum tire presure on the side of them not a recommended pressure.

Hmm, look what a bad day will get you into. . .

Sorry, I was mostly referring to the Wilderness AT, and my personal experience, and the many posts i've read where they had switched to another brand (due to recall most likely) and the ride was noticably better.
However My Dad had a '00 Expedition that came with either Firstone or Bridgestone A/T's and at 30k mi replaced 2 due to tread seperation problems. A months later he got a notice from Ford that those tires were being recalled. (Go Bridgestone/Firestone!) Replaced all 4 (2 old / 2 new) with Michellins and the ride was noticably improved.

^ must have been the Wilderness tires,

i don't recall ever hearing about the Dueler being recalled

Sorry Jefe I got kinda overly-mad on that one. I totally admit the wilderness AT totally sucked hardcore. But you know, all OEM tires are gonna suck. The recall happened about a year after my parents replaced the wilderness at because they totally hated them. I started driving about the time of the "great recall" and we had wrangler rt/s on it. They did good but I didn't know how to take care of them and messed them up too. Just seems like it's kind of a given that better tires (if the person puts better than OEM tires on) will ride better and last longer and perform better, especially a michellin.

Ratings dont mean jack. For all you know a bunch of firestone reps could have bumped their tire to the top.

Im still new to running mud tires, but I have ran the Big-O bigfoot x/t and am currently running the pro comp muds. Procomps are better for sure...

O yeah!

By the way I keep My Firestone still as a spare. It has centimental value to the truck!:p

How would you know procomps are better if you are new to running mud tires....
