I was pretty sure they did, at least all of the 4 doors, but Superior axle says only '98 and up had rear discs.

It was an option but not standard. I think all 5.0 came with rear discs as well as Limiteds and EB.

My '97 Mountaineer has 4 wheel disc.

Yeah 95 had disc as far as I can remember.. Better weld those tubes up Rick..

My '95 XLT 4x4 has discs all the way around...

Everything I can find said 95 up had rear disc brake..

'95 and up had it.

I know I have seen second Gens with rear drums.

my brother's 97 has discs and mine came with discs also.

never seen drums except on newer STs

Am I the only smart arse around here?

95 up had them :)

Jeff,

How about the Sports? Were they also disc in the rear?

And do you know if there was a design change between the '95 and '98 models? Superior claims their kit will only fit the '98+.

Hmm..

no design change in 98 as far as I know, the stator ring for the ABS was in all 95+
yes Sports have discs as well
the Sporttrac is basically a ranger edge rear
I do not have any idea why Superior would claim 98+, the only difference I know of on any Gen II 4 or 2 door is traction bars or not (5.0L AWD, and SOHC AWD got traction bars I believe)
the brakes are all the same, they all use the internal e brake as well

My '97 XL 2 Door (base model) came with disc brakes

I also ran into this when ordering my alloy axles. They only had the confirmed axle length for the 95-97. I ordered anyway and they fit fine. :dunno:

Who do you trust? Superior? or a bunch of Explorer junkies on a explorer website all with the same answer?

I asked then at the offroad show if they plan to make a FW Super 88 kit, they said no! But I could buy the kit and have currie make me some custom axles.
