Disable LED Signature Lights

Just purchased a 2018 Explorer....love the vehicle!

There are LED lights that outline the headlamp assembly that appear to always be on when the car is running. These aren't the daytime running lamps (at least I don't think they are as I have that feature off). Is there any way to turn these off? Maybe I'm over processing this but I don't want them to run all the time and then "burn out" and maybe it's no biggie if the LEDs can be replaced. But if they cannot be replaced and you have to replace the who unit, that's expensive.

Thoughts?

As per the Owner's Manual, those are called Signature Lights. Many have asked the same question and have had various results. I believe FORScan might be a tool that could turn them OFF. Others have cut the wire feeding the lights. Unless the vehicle is used for surveillance purposes or similar duties, I personally don't understand why these lights seem to bother so many owners. They are LED so they will likely last many years before they "burn out". I do believe the Signature Lights are part of the headlamp assembly.

Thanks Peter for the links and tagging this onto another thread.

I'm not opposed to having it on....just don't feel the need to have it on either unless the lights are on. I'm relatively new to the LED environment and not knowing their longevity I figured I'd ask from those that may have experience with LEDs for awhile. What I do know is that if they "burn out" or fade (whatever LEDs do), if the lights themselves cannot be replaced the cost of a headlight assembly is super pricey (approaching 4 figures).

LED lights will fade over time. But you're looking at years and years down the road. And they can fail, just like your headlamps can fail. LED are known for their long life and will likely outlive the life of the vehicle they are installed in. will automobile leds fade - Google Search

Buy yourself an extended warranty through Ford and get the lighting option added to it.

It's not a bad idea but it's a pricey option. Extended warranty (to 100k miles and Nov 2026) is $3075. With all the gadgets in this vehicle, a bumper to bumper coverage is appealing and their 0% for 24 months helps. Lots to noodle over!

You can do much better going here; Ford ESP at dealer cost to forum members

I have read this thread out of curriosity, but I really don't understand why anyone is so concernened about turing those LED strips off. Honestly, they look pretty cool in my opinion. Now, with halogen lights I was 100% against drl's or extra lights like this runnning all the time due to burning out bulbs, but LED should last forvever. Just my 2 cents as a '17 Explorer owner.

I love the headlight outline drl leds on , just wondering if there's a way also without a dealer visit to disable the low bean led headlight so its not on while driving in daytime. Ive noticed that some newer explorers only have the led outline on, while others on the roads have both the led outline on and the led low beam drl during daytime on.

It would be nice to know if there a option for just the outline drl to be on during daytime?

Check my posts in the FORScan thread. I did this to my 18. Looks great.

I did a search, and didn't have any luck finding the Forscan thread...

I'm guessing if my DRL is configurable, it would be under Vehicle in the left side gauge menu...
I checked the Manual and DRL isn't mentioned specifically in the Settings but it could be in a Settings submenu.

It is there (on mine it is).

Settings, Vehicle, Lighting, Daytime Lights.

I'll check on my 19, didnt see it earlier. Only lighting delay I believe.

Nope only Autolamp Delay...

Wonder why you don’t have it?

Auto engine off shuts off the timed setting for your car running in park, so it will stay running as long as you leave it on.

I wish I knew, maybe they changed in on 19 models? I wish it was there as I hate the low beam on during the daytime, even if its at a lower output setting. I'd rather just have the led outline lit up by choice.
