Just wondering...i had mine installed about a year 1/2 ago. Does it just get louder and louder, or just rust out eventually?

BTW...does anyone have a Delta 40 on there 4.0L? If so, does it sound good or too loud?? Thoughts appreciated.

After long trips my "50" sounds bad to the bone!! I was going to have 40 Delta installed, but everybody kept saying it would be too loud.

Flowmaster mufflers use chambers to silence the exhaust, they do not use fiberglass or other materials like other mufflers, therefore the note you hear when you first install a flowmaster will not change.....

about a year and a half on mine, sounds great still

NON delta 40 series, and its too quite! :(

more than likely, it will outlast your truck.

to give you an idea, my father has a set on an old dually farm truck, and they were the FIRST flowmasters to come out. i believe they were put on about 15 years ago. most of the exhaust has rotted away, and so has the truck. the mufflers still look new.

ALL new mufflers and exhaust systems will change in sound a bit after they "break in", they heat up and cool down a few times, and they get a "coating" on the inside of the pipes.

Flowmaster ABSOLUTLY get a bit louder than when they were first installed. It has nothing to do that they use baffles. I've installed Flowmasters on EVERY gas truck I've ever owned, they ALL get louder. Also my Buddy's have had more Mustangs that I can remember. One time, my Cousin got a 98 Cobra and got a Flowmaster system installed, and he was VERY unhappy with the way it sounded (too quiet), but I told him to wait a week or so, then it came to life and he loves it!!

One note, they should only get louder to a point, they shouldn't keep getting louder and louder.

As for reliability, Flowmasters are aluminized, and should outlast your X (outlasting an X shouldn't be that hard), BUT only 1 time did I see a Flowmaster completly rust, on a guys 91 Camaro, he parked the car in the middle of the winter and it sat for a year with road salt still underneth, when he wanted to get the car running, again, we put it on a lift and the WHOLE underside was rusted, even the aluminized Flowmaster.

I've had mine for about 5 yrs and its showing signs of rust. The metal isnt flexing and it still feels solid to the touch but it appears to be getting ready to rust threw. I cant tell if its getting any loader-its hard to tell from inside the truck:confused:

The Flowmaster on my X was installed in '96 and it has a couple of little spots where the baffles are spot welded to the case. Nothing major, all I need to do is spot weld the rust spots shut and spray a little aluminum paint over the welds to protect them.

Really? Its not that loud? I went with the "50" because i didnt want to piss off the niebors. Maybe ill make the switch later. Is the only diff between 40 delta and the non delta is delta quieter on inside?
