Does anyone have a MFT system that works?

MFT is more than a FUN device. When it is 98 degrees and the climate controls do not work for your children in the back, it is no longer just a "fun" device.

My issues do not just occur at startup. They happen at random times. I can be driving and the nav system just stops working.

Also, I have had instances where the radio WILL NOT TURN OFF! I can turn off the vehicle get out and lock the doors and the radio stays on. You can not turn it off even if you open the doors and press the power button.

How is that caused by not allowing it to start up properly?

When the screen does not even come on and stays blank, how is that caused by not allowing it to start properly?

When you start the vehicle and all of the climate controls are missing after everything has time to load, how is that caused by not allowing it to start properly?

When the Sirius travel link weather radar crashes the nav system, how is that caused by not allowing it to start properly?

My car is your car's twin brother. Mine operates exactly as yours does(n't).

Again, no offense, but you used it once on one trip and thought it was great. If I had the duration of one single long trip to program it and let it find its way, it would seem fine as well. If you use it constantly all day long with multiple destinations, as many of us do, it does not deliver. It cannot keep up. The rebooting and shutting down and deleted destinations, etc. make it basically useless for robust use. If you see it as a nice novelty for the occasional trip, then you will likely enjoy it. It's not up to par for vigorous use, as it really should be. We're totally different users.

I use mine on a regular basis and it doesn't behave anything like yours does. Nav programming has been fairly straightforward and it takes about 10 seconds to calculate a route at most. Never had it reboot, error out, delete destinations, etc.

My boot time from initial key on is usually under 10 seconds. My phone hooks up in 2-5 seconds and the nav is the last thing to come up at about 10 seconds. I do notice the buffer as some people have mentioned, but within 30 seconds I'm usually fully on-line.

Loganfilm,

Have you taken your unit to the dealer? Have you PM'd Cory?

Seems as if you have a lot of issues (and a lot of understandable anger) - but I haven't seen if you've had the APIM replaced (which it sounds like is what you need).

Same with you TenneseeTider - TAKE IT TO YOUR DEALER

As you can see from the posts here - YOUR PROBLEMS ARE NOT NORMAL.

They are not isolated mind you - Ford has released a buggy product here, but the extent of the problems you two seem to be having are way more than what the rest of us seem to be experiencing.

My bet Tennesee is that you have an early build with the early APIM version - the APIM version (part of the MFT computer) is probably old - Ford issued an updated APIM if I recall correctly and also updated software (v. 2.8)

Go to your dealer and have your APIM and software updated - OR AT LEAST LOOKED AT.

Complaining constantly on message boards gets you nowhere. Stamping feet at a dealership and escalating concerns with Cory and Ford WILL.....

And if your dealer isn't taking care of you TAKE IT TO ANOTHER DEALER.....

Same here -- everything is online within 20 seconds AT MOST. I turn it on, wait a couple of seconds put it in reverse and by the time I'm in Forward again most everything is booted up. Sometimes the Nav takes a second or two longer, but usually not more than that.

Same here. I just had my APIM replaced after having the truck for a week. AMAZING difference after the install. Works pretty well, still has its bugs though. The UI and software definitely need some polishing/streamlining. I love the system though. Definitely as good as any aftermarket system I've seen or used at CES.

Cory,

PM sent. Mileage 2300.
Thank you for letting me know. I received your message and sent you a reply as well. Please check your inbox for the details.

jrmexplorer, I appreciate the recommendation to contact me. Thank you.

Loganfilm, I found that your message was received and you will be contacted later today.

No offense to Loganfilm, but I respectfully disagree. I am a heavy nav user and always have been (I have no sense of direction and have been a big fan of nav since its inception and have 2 Garmins which I love). The Explorer's nav unit which I use every day with multiple destinations works fine for me (just as well as the unit in my Infiniti and as well as any other car nav systems that I have tested or used in the past). Unfortunately, there do appear to be some MFT systems that are buggy (probably a quality control issue or perhaps a sat signal issue. There have been a lot of posts on this already and I feel bad and a little worried (knock on wood) about all the problems reported here but I can honestly say that MFT has been working very well for me SO FAR (my only issue is spotty voice command recognition for media play on an iPhone).

Unfortunately, complaints like this are not unique to Ford. My friend's wife just had Lexus buy back her RX because Lexus could not fix the issue with her head unit (after 2 years of fighting and having the head unit constantly go out, get replaced, have computer guys at the dealership telling her there is no problem, and finally giving up after 2d replacement crapped out and then fighting for buyback). Good luck to those with issues.

I have an XLT w/o nav and it works great. Quick start-up and phone connection (to primary phone), no issues with voice commands, touch screen responds great. We're running v2.8.

Mine has been at my dealer 4 times. The APIM has been replaced, I have software version 2.8.

I have complained at the dealer vehemently and they have been on the phone with Ford "Engineers".

Still same problems!

I have not complained constantly. I have only a handful of posts here.

Sorry you are having so many problems. I feel for you, I really do. I'm not sure what else to suggest. You and LoganFilm seem to have major issues. While your problems are not unique, they are not normal either.

Hopefully Cory can escalate your concerns up the Ford heirarchy and get a resolution for you.

If not, then I would be looking at lemon laws and talking with an attorney about returning the car. I realize lemon laws are for serious issues with the car, but what you are reporting are not just minor glitches but a system that sounds (for all intents and purposes) like a non-functioning radio and climate system.

MFT is unacceptable and the Nav is a joke.

It does not work as it should. Period. It locks up. Shuts down. Refuses inputs. Deletes entries. Takes entirely too long to load, if it even loads at all. The list is endless and factual. .
So have you taken it into the dealer to be fixed? There seem to be some bad head units out there, and based on what you've described, yours seem to have more issues than a software update to v2.8 would fix.

I had a particularly crazy experience with MFT this AM. I got in the car to head to work and Sirius started playing, because that's what I was listening to when I shut off the vehicle last night. I noticed that my iPhone was detected within only a few seconds. I put the car in reverse and the backup camera came on and helped guide me down. I put the car in drive and the MFT dispaly switched back to the Entertainment screen. I noticed that my iPhone had been picked up as a BT streaming device, so I tentatively touched the input and...weird...Buzz Out Loud started up just where I'd left off.

What's going on here?
I have the same thing happen. It seems to buffer commands and then act on them after the system totally boots. I've started to give it a minute before issuing any voice commands.

Mine appears to fully boot by the time I have backed out of the garage, but my experience is that what is on the display does not reflect an actual complete boot of the system.

The only problem I've had with MFT unit (V2.4) is that upon starting the vehicle it sometimes begins to play from the USB stick when in fact it was on a Sirius channel when shut off. This happened again today making it 4 or 5 times it has happened since I took delivery March 14th. On the last 2 ocassions it happened after filling up with gas and once after stopping for breakfast at a restaurant. I cannot recall if it happened after being parked for long periods. I'll have to pay more attention I guess.

I filled mine up with gas yesterday and the radio would not come back on when I started it back up! Had to restart it 2x to get the RADIO to come on! None of the buttons would work to power the radio on, not the MFT or the round power button either!

Same here. xLT no nav and no issues

A piece of hardware, the APIM, failing at such a high frequency would be completely unacceptable in the computer industry. I hope Ford has a good contract with the supplier!

I really appreciate the support, jrmexplorer.

TennesseeTider, I’m glad I was able to escalate your concerns. I saw that you were called about this. Be sure to keep us in the loop with any updates.

For all those who aren’t able to enjoy their Explorer because of this, I’m here to offer my assistance. If you haven’t done so already, please send a PM with your VIN, approximate mileage, and dealer name.

Cory

I was called. Thank you Cory.

The rep had contacted my dealer and she informed them of a just released "bulletin" (I can't remember what she called it) about all of the issues with the MFT system.

I was told that there is a software team working on the system and that Ford is very aware of all of the issues. I was also told they did not know when the software would be released as they would have to test it on multiple vehicles before it was released...... something you would have hoped they would have done before they unleashed this on the unsuspecting public in the first place.

I noted that she said that there were Microsoft and Ford components that were not functioning properly together as they were developed separately. I was told they are being worked on together now.... again something you would have hoped they would have done beforehand.

I was told that until the software is released, there is nothing that can be done.

You’re welcome. It’s unfortunate there isn’t a resolution right now but I’ll let you know if I come across any updates on future software releases.
