Alright well my new cd player can use an ipod and have it hooked up to it...but i have a creative zen media player which is 5gb ......so what my question is if i can use my mp3 player on the cdplayer with the wire...or does it HAVE to be an iPod?

what kind of cd player did you get and what kind of I pod input does it have?

Most aftermarket CD players have an AUX input these days which is nothing more then RCA cables, so you can plug any audio device into them, even an old walkman
If your aftermarket CD player controls a CD changer then you can get an adapter that will also supply you with RCA cable inputs, again youcan plug jsut about anything into here, even an electric guitar (see new VW add's)

Now for my kenwood head units I bought an actual Kenwood I pod adapter, its kind of nice because once its plugged in the Kenwood head unit controls the I pod and displays the songs, etc on the screen, so this allows you to say have your I pod in your glove box and foget about it, you dont need to touch it or power it.

So no it does not have to be an Ipod unless it is a specific Ipod input adapter.

its a Alpine CDE-9852 and it has controls for an ipod to search for the songs on the cdpayer itself....so i'm guessing it wouldn't work

If you want to control it from the head unit, it must be an ipod, but, you can get an auxillary cable from crutchfield, or from any audio store, you can run it as an external, but it wont charge, and you have to control it from the MP3 player itself: not a bad option, ive been doing this on my JVC for quite sometime now, sounds halfway decent

i used to use my zen micro on my HU, but i got tired of trying to look at the little screen and arguing with it when it scrolled past my songs while i was driving, so i sold it and putting an 30gb ipod in there, just bought the adapter today
