DONT WANT AUTO 4 Wheel

Personally, in a vehicle with as short a wheelbase as my Sport, I don't want to fishtail. It's pretty difficult to recover it because it snaps back so quickly. However, yes, that *can* be a reason for some. Also, doing so causes excessive and unnecessary slippage in the transfer case, which isn't good for it.

As for saving gas, as I've stated in numerous other posts, there is no fuel savings to be had by doing the BWM.

-Joe

Yeah your prob right on the fuel as my 02' 4x4 is essentially in 2wd until you get on the gas or if any slipping is detected.

Gas smash.. I want the fun factor. I want to smoke the tires once in a while, I want to lay her sideways sometimes, if I was worried about my drivetrain I wouldn't have 400+rwhp on my X.

LIVE ON THE 2WD OPTION!!! :burnout:

I Was Wondering

how does the BWM give you 2wd low? If your cutting the power to the tc, then how will it go into low?

You're cutting power to the transfer case clutch coil. Shift motor function is unaffected.

thnx gijoe, i just read your bwm thread. I might attempt this, this weekend after my mac intake install. This should increase the life of the clutch? Is this clutch the weak point of this transfer case? is there an upgrade clutch available?also I have heard that the 3rd gens can transfer as much as 100%of the power to the front wheels in auto4x4. if this is true then a potentiometer could be installed so just the front axle would be engaged when the proper voltege is applied.does anyone know if this is true?

SO i bought a relay and a lighted switch to wire up the brown wire... but for know i just cut the brown wire and taped it off to see wut happened. and the Auto 4wd does not engage. But when i put it in 4x4 HIGH it doesnt not engage either.... SO tomorrow im gonna finish the project and wire in the switch and relay!!!!

But your 2wd worked fine?

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

IM IN HEAVEN.

I just snipped my brown wire to see what it did.... I smoked my tires for about 60 feet before my rev limiter hit. Pure sex. In a safe place I whipped around a corner and did a nice controlled slide.

My MPG computer went up about 1.5-2.0mpg more on an average.

Ok, this sounds fine and dandy, and I would really want to attempt this. The only problem is, there are too many confusing posts. Can someone who has accomplished this successfully give me step by step directions also the parts that they used. I am in Germany, so I don't have the luxury of running back to a autoparts store for parts. They mainly sell BMW's and Audi's overhere. I just need step by step and the size and kind of swith and fuse used. If someone would be willing to do this, please send it to kory_n_steph@yahoo.com.

If it matters, I have a 2002 Explorer 4.6L V8. I am mainly doing this to save on gas, but would love to feel and smell some burning tires since I have never been able to pull it off in my whip. Thanks in advance...and I will take step by step pics and post if someone would give me the directions on the intstall and parts...

Just curious, what do mean your MPG went up?? Are you talking about gas mileage??

Yeah I DID. I just went out for a little cruise and I have to take that statement back. My computer that tells me my average miles per gallon is the same as before. But man will it light up the tires. Im not sure if you will be able to smoke them on a stock explorer but im sure you can spin them.

Im lighting up 295-40-20's. If I had my stock tires they would probably fall off.

Go to ********* dot com and under search put: brown wire

And the first hit you get should be a pretty comprehensive write up on what to do.

ALright, thanks dude. My explorer isn't stock if you meant engine mods. I got the K&N FIPK Intake system, a incoming BBK 75MM Throttle Body and Gibson Side Swept Exhaust System. If you meant the tires, yeah they are still stock and a guy at work told me I probably would have a hard time lighting them up....thanks for the info though!!!:D

Yeah I meant the motor. You should have a few more horsies then. Not sure what diff you have but when I light them up both tires light up and never any signs of one wheel spin on the floor. I got the tow package therefore it came with limited slip 3.73's.

Good luck. Let us know how it turned out and how it drives.

Happy :burnout:

Sweet, I sure will. I got the tow package also, so that means I got the limited slips? Also what are 3.73's? I am familiar with engines, but haven't ventured to trannies yet...thanks dude!!

I think all two packages have them, I think there are two levels of tow packages. It will be stamped on your diff cover. You will see a code within that code it will have LS373...

Where exactly is that @ because I don't wanna be looking forever...thanks

If memory serves me right... its stamped on the rear differential cover. Either on the diff cover or on the other side of the differential. You know where the diff is right? Look at the back in front of your spare tire, the pumpkin looking ball where your half shafts connect to
