Wow!!

I just did exactly as you said and it worked a charm. I think I can call my mechanic and tell him to disregard my call this afternoon.

Thanks m8

OK, I admit I am an idiot. I can't remember the proper names for some of this stuff, which really hurt my attempt at searching.

I need to try the WD40 fix, but while looking at the passenger side door "claw" assembly that clamps on to the part on the post to hold the door shut, I saw a small spring that was obviously disconnected at one end, can't see the other.

Any ideas on what this is and could it be causing the door ajar light to stay on? I know it is the passenger door since it doesn't cause a ding when opened with the key on. The door latch seems to work better than the driver's side, and no known issues with it locking or unlocking.

Thanks,
Russ

door ajar-no pwr windows

I have a 1997 mountaineer & the D.A. light is on . my lights wouldnt go out. I figured out it was the pass door (front).the next day I opened it and now my D.A. light is on,my windows are dead including the roof, also before my alarm would have a mind of its own.at first I had to put the key in the driv. door and turn, now I have to do the pass. side door to disable it.can any one thing cause all them problems?

is there any other way i can fix this problem at home? iv tried the wd40 trick and the ding thingy to find out wat door it is only to learn that im outta wd40 n my door latch is lubed for the next few years. and that the front passenger door is the only one that dings when the key is on. if i set the child lock to on, it sticks to on tell i remove the door panel from the inside and open the door that way. i also have a 98 explorer thats a writeoff for parts. only thing is its wrong colour.

worked for me =]

:D 2nd time here...here's how...

Leave the key in the ignition. Turn to the on position. Even with doors closed, chime sounds once after a few seconds and door ajar light comes on and stays on right? Open each door one by one. The chime, or tone, should sound each time you open a door. When you find the door that doesn't make the chime or tone sound when you open it, that is the problem. (Don't forget the rear hatch and the hatch glass!) I would apply the WD-40 with a straw on this doors latch at this time.. Be sure to spray upward into latch, as the switch is frequently on top. It worked for me when I latched it with the door open, giving room for the straw above those "claws". Still open and close the door several times after lube... To determine if the switch is bad or if the GEM is having a problem thinking the door is open, just unplug the suspected switch, close all the doors, and see if the problem stops. (don't forget to wait a second to give the lights time to go off) If unplugging the switch solves it, then replace it.

Hope that's helpful..but it doesn't fix a broken wire...LOL

yea that dinging drove me nuts trying to listen to the radio with the driver door open. This is an easy fix. the switch is in the door panel above the door latch. pull up the rubber glass molding on the inside of the window with the glass down and you can see it. take a long screw driver or other similar item and flip the plug off. it also disables the ds puddle light. No more dinging and it is reversible!
