I've had this issue on both of my Explorers and seen others here mention it. The molded vinyl on the door panel armrests comes loose and looks bad.
I've tried glue and upholstery staples with mixed success but not great fit and finish. I really like my latest method though...
1. Drill 1/16" holes every 1/2" or so along the lip of the plastic armrest core.
2. Use heavy thread (for denim, embroidery, etc.) and stitch the vinyl back to the core via drilled holes.
As you stich, use a pick or small screwdriver to carefully pull slack out of previous stitches (it helps to pull the vinyl cover around the lip of the core at the same time.
3. Tie off the thread and you're good-to-go!
It looks nice for now and I think it should hold up well.
