Dr. Jack

Have you measured this lately????? :p:

I wish I was going to Colorado with you all this year. Last year was a blast!

LOL!! Had to use one of those special "goose-crapometers"
Wish you and Gregg were gonna be there this year also Scott, it was a hoot of a time with all the ones that were there last year, and I was only a rider.

Took the rear shocks on the front off, didn't have to do any grinding, they were mounted to shoulder studs, so that made it nice. Now have 2 spare Bilsteins for when these wear out. Ran into town and gave the rig a bath, just hums along.
Did get about 3/4 turn more out of the steering wheel more by doing this. I would rather have the wider tires than the turning radius that I had with the 32's x 11.5's.
Now to chill for a bit, clean the interior of the rig, and then load that thing on the trailer for a EF run!

Today is the day!!

After two missed runs, a lot of knuckle busting, traveling from point A to point B and in between, a heap of priceless information from the EF members, relearning basic mechanics and electrical, (a Explorer is no near a M1 tank system and military vehicles) reading numerous threads and posts, doing joe willy fo fo's,.
Today John's rig rejoins the Explorer Forum run with his name assigned to the rig he put so much work into with the group he put so much work into.
I don't care that it is not going to be a large group of members, the time has finally arrived. Pics to follow.:chug: :salute:

Have fun up in those beautiful mountains.

That rig almost made it there with its original owner, now it has made it with you behind the wheel. Dr. Jack was instrumental in starting the CCR runs and getting Ford Techs to join along with the group. Sadly, he was not able to make it in person, but his spirit lives on in that rig, and good things have a way of eventually coming through. I think it is pretty remarkable that the way this story has unfolded with you and the rig being there where Dr. Jack couldn't make it.

I am sure he is smiling down on you from up above right now. :)

I really hope so, he might of been shaking his head on some of the "ah sh#ts" I pulled.

Thanks EF peeps, without ya'll, this wouldn't be happening. :salute:

History in the makin'...:salute:

It's Official!! As about 2:20pm today the Dr. Jack is back wheeling with the EF!

Now if I can get photobucket to work here. My dial up is more reliable. Been trying for close to an hour to get pics to upload. Worked fine for facebook.

Finally got photobucket to upload, this is Brain1 and myself at Ophir Pass.

Starting the spare tire/fuel can/farm jack carrier this week. Nothing fancy, just something to do the job.
Also will be ordering the front bumper and when that is completed and installed, a winch will be mounted.

Glad your getting out there and using this truck. still looks good :)

Thanks Brad, it felt real good to trail with others on an EF run. (abeit a very small group) and actually get dirt on it doing trails instead of gravel roads and the "off road" area here.
The motor is freaking outstanding, got a nice deep sound to it.

So how did the Camera work out? Did it help on Black bears switchbacks?

Didn't use the camera on Black Bear, started to once but Jim was on the ground guiding so I switched it off, didn't need it anywhere else on Black Bear.
Did try it on the gravel on the down side of Imogene, with the light ground the sun light reflected and pretty much made it a blur, will have to figure a filter system for that.
It worked great on the water crossing, I was able to line myself up almost perfect to the ledge on the far side, and went right up the obstacle with out any problem what so ever. (The Jeep took several tries and another vehicle took several tries, I didn't see the buggy but I am pretty sure he just went right over it)

Moving right along, got the stuff to make the spare tire/farm jack/ fuel can carrier. Mother Nature decided to start leaking tho, don't have the balls to run electrical cords thru water, but got the brains not to.
The front bumper is in progress, with an arrival date of maybe 10 days or so, found the winch I want, will be ordering it Monday.

The other week I was looking at the current prices of Warn winches. Dang that company sure is proud of their product. :p:

That is no lie! They hover around the $1k+ area.

Mike, just an idea here.....

I am planning on getting the 10k champion winch (#C10586) from Sams Club. For $350 and 3 yrs of full replacement warranty, I don't think I can go wrong. It comes with the full mounting tray, speed mount, 4 way roller fairlead, 85' of aircraft cable, 5' & 20' quick connect power leads, has a brake system, free spool, 5 layered drum, weather sealed solenoid, snatch block. The speed mount is optional, as the handles are bolt on.

The Warn 10,500 lb pull is what I was looking at, it is on sale right now but is a basic package.

This Champion winch looks like a damn good deal. Do you know if it is a 10k pull with a 1:1 ratio or a 2:1 MA? I saw that snatch block, and that alone is around 30 bucks. Hell, that would be worth getting a sam's club membership. The Warn I am looking at also don't have the tensioner on it.
