My explorer drive belt is giving some irritating noise during first start. This was started after changing my water pump bypass hose i removed the belt while repairing the hose.

Did i fixed it too loosed or too tight. Do i need to replace my drive belt my explorer is 2009 model having 63000km run.

Is there any way to measure the correct tightness of the belt

You can try tightening the belt a little more trying some belt dressing and if it still persues to ignore you, change the belt.I had a new one do this to me on my Dakota once.New parts CAN come defective..

Do NOT use belt dressing on serpentine belts, there is no tension adjustment.
Check that it's between the tensioner wear indicators. At 39,000 miles the belt
should be OK. Remove the belt and check ALL the pulleys for binding.

Thanks guys i still wondering what went wrong when i fixed back the belt i just removed the idler pulley and one silly mistake this could be the reason i might not fixed it back correctly

And another thing was i have loosened the tensioner instead of just pushing it t loosened the belt while removing it

Great help i solved the problem i found out that the tensioner is not properly fixed it is not aligned it good that it didnt damage my belt. Now its working great thank you guys

there is no adjustment to a serpentine belt. that's the tensioner's job. if you got coolant on the belt when your hose failed, or if it's just old, you should replace it. don't use belt dressing.

Glad ya fixed it night rock...As for the other comments,I've been using belt dressing for over 20yrs with no issues.I was just wondering why others are so dead against it?

I've yet to see any belt manufacturer that recommends dressing on serpentine belts.
Also search auto mechanics technical forums. Here are two links I found at random:

Do you ever recommend belt dressings for noisy belts?

No. Any belt dressing may quieten the belt since it will cause the belt to slip quietly, but the EPDM rubber materials will absorb this chemical and cause the rib surface to dry out and typically become more aggressive, which means the belt noise will return (and many times louder than before). Dayco’s recommendation is to determine and fix what is causing the belt to make the noise (permanent fix), thus eliminating the need for belt dressing (a temporary fix).
