Driver side fender out of whack

the first photo on post #8 is the exact photo I would want to see.

That said, if that part of your truck looks like the first photo on post #8 then you can just tell me, I probably dont NEED to see it.

If it is bent like that, get your self a bowl of Wheaties, and take your vitamins.

You will need a B.F.H., which stands for a really big hammer. ;)
Depending on how bad it is bent, you might need some crazy combination of pry bars and punches and stuff. What ever it takes to beat that lip around to vertical.

I laughed a bit too hard at this.

Alright, mine does look like his. The lip is bent on both sides.
I was thinking about taking the bottom trim/running board off, and the fender. Attaching a C clamp to it nice and tight, and pulling with something.
but, the B.F.H. is a good idea. But how am I gonna hammer it if I'm under the car?

Anyway, I have a great summer project..

C-clamp will work as well.

Hmm, do you think attaching a c-clamp, hooking up a good chain to it and pulling it with another car would hurt? That way, I can save money by not buying Wheaties! :D

And, I have so much to do with the X this summer.
I want to pamper it a little.

I might even consider doing this sooner if it gets warm.

I'll probably take a ton of pics and post a how-to if I can. :)
 






Well, I attempted attempting a try at this and the first 7mm bolt on the top of the fender, broke right off. No it wasn't tight, it was rusted. Now the fender is rusted to the mounting hood mounter thing. I'm gonna buy a couple boxes of wheaties, and take my vitamins...

Yeah, i know. I think the C clamp is my best bet.

An adjustable wrench clamped onto the "flap" and then push, loosen, move wrench over a tad, push --move it just a little at a time, working the adjustable wrench back and forth along the "flap" so you do not make new creases.

Yeah, that's what I had in mind.
 






I used a 5 lb. sludge hammer to bend mine back, but the issue is that it is actually pushed up. So I was thinking about attaching a chain to the bent lip, and then attaching the jack and jacking up the truck slightly so that the chain pulls the lip back down, and the jack will hold the chain.

Wish I could do this. Here are 2 reasons why I cannot:
1. That bent lip is so bent, it's against the rocker panel, so there is not even any room for a crowbar.
2. Whacking underneath the Explorer with a 5lb hammer would create a shower of rust pieces on me. NY FTW!! I prefer faded clear over rust.

There has to be a spot where you can stick a crowbar.

Also, don't hammer it then, do it delicately but with power.
 






If you can get something under there, you can get these on the lip, and simply bend it back, I didn't have a pair of these, so that is why I used a hammer.

I have a Q: How would bending the bottom panel bracket correct the fender? It's pulled towards the drivers side door, how will un bending that bent stuff beneath fix that?

It puts the fender slots in the correct position to correctly adjust the alignment.

The difference is adjusting in and out as opposed to up and down.

I tried this today. I managed to pull some back.
However, I need to get that little corner trim plastic piece off, but the screw in the wheel well is stripped/damaged and I can't unscrew it..

Now what?
I might try the elastic band trick tomorrow..
 






I just want to update on how I got mine corrected. Just got some thick gloves on, and grabbed a crowbar, and needle nose pliers. I had enough brawn to bend it back enough to jam the needle nose pliers in, then pulled away from there. Use gloves...it made indents in my hand for a couple days lol. Almost broke my existing pliers so I suggest using some heavier duty ones.

i just adjusted my fender. took off the fender flares, skirt, and hardware. Straightened it out with a vice grip and it fell right into place. put everything back together....better than factory! haha

When I went to do this, I straightened it, but it didn't really work..
Well, you can't "just straighten" it, you have to pull the entire panel backwards until when you place the fender against the panel, it has no ridge sticking out. It's kinda hard to understand...you'll get it.
