Ok, im fairly profecient myself, but i cant win this to save my life. my 97's driver dorr hasnt locked since the day i bought it over a year ago, no bother, never been broken into (knocks on wood), and tonight i decide to fix it because im bored as hell, well, i pull the door panel off no prob, and look at the lock, the rod connecting to the cylinder where you put your key, fell off?? so i get it back in, and then there is no power to it. WTF i wonderd slightly, so i decide to cut my losses and just throw it back on and use the key to lock and unlock my door instead of the remote (stupid added features) so i get it on, close the dorr and test it out a couple of times, and it doesnt go at first once i get the black piece on because it was rubbing on the inside of the door for some reason (panel on fine) so i cut it to work, and it did!! yaay M ...but wait , the rod fell off, AGAIN . so i said screw it, and i wanted to see what you guys thought i should do before i get pissed and break something like i usualy do till i figure out how to do it!!
Thanks, CLay
the rod should have a little plastic clip that holds it in place... as for the power system not working, you probably accidentally hit something and disconeeded a wire inside
That is a white plastic part, and is available from Ford. I had one of my key cylinders turn out to be broken, there are two ears on them for that white piece to e-clip onto.
Yea, the clips are fine, and it went in place again with effert with some needle nose pliars, so i know the clip is fine, but the rod got turned in a weird way. And the connections are fine, just no power? I also would like to know whats the deal with the back door handles, mine are shot too, im gonna try and fix both today.
New update, i was feeling around that rod, but i cant see to well because of the window guide, It doesnt feel attched to the motor and it is hard to turn the key to the right. i believe thats unlock. Im kinda at a loss
BTW, you can easily remove and reinstall that window guide. That is the only adjustment for the windows(side to side). Only one bolt holds it in, that's at the bottom near the corner of the door, a gold bolt. The guide slips up into the top door channel, at the side of the window. It slips right out, and you can easily see how to put it back in. To adjust the window roll it down and lightly snug the window guide against it, tighten the bolt.
