Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. That said here are some of the issues on my 1999 XLT:

1) Driver's side door unlock does not work. I have tried swapping switches and have the same symptoms with the new ones. The switch will lock all doors but will not unlock any. I am now reaching over to the passenger door to use that switch.

2) Overhead console with temp and compass has suddenly died completely. All fuses are fine.

3) Driver's door pin switch (or equivalent) does not work. I can not find one so I need to know how this system works in this car. The car does not know if the door is open or not. The dome light does not work with this door nor does the auto-lock feature of the alarm when only this door is used.

That's it for now... I am sure I will have lots more questions in the near future as I just got this truck back from my Dad who had "borrowed" it for the past two years while renovating my house.

THANX GUYS

I'm not sure about the answer to your question, but I have the exact same problem with the lock button on the driver's door.

Ok-the unlock and handle problem are related--

The door ajar switch is part of the latch assembly--some have srrayed wd-40 or cleaner in there and brought it back--the door which doesn't ding when opened (with engine running) is the culprit--

The outside door handle will break-or wear, not pushing the inside rod up far enough to allow the unlock solenoid to operate. Replace the broken outer handle
I seem to remember something about soldering the temp-compass display board-you might search for those terms--

Your problem with the unlock function is a broken wire in the door post.... my guess ... check / trace PK/LG.

I'm with budwich, I had window problems until I traced a wire that broke where the wireing goes into the body between the drivers door and the frame.

Thanx for the info. went out this morning and took off the door card. The bigger plug on the actual lock latch was broken of and making no contact. I touched it to the door and the dome light worked!!!!!!!!!!!. Anyway it can't be re-attached without swapping latch, which I would like to avoid. Can I rig pin switch to the same wire and get the desired function????

PS

tried to look for the broken lock wire but had no luck.... where was your problem and was it clearly broken?

my 96 would not unlock from the drivers door or passenger door. The switch by the hatch would work.

I read about the pink and green wire here. I tested it in the drivers kick panel and nothing happend.
when i grounded the pink and yellow the doors would lock.

so i followed the wires back to where they are under the flaps for the rear seat fold down. Tested there and they worked. So somewhere between the rear seat and kick panel the pink/green wire was broken. I ran a new one.. and Im back in business.

Now I have to figure out my dome lights. they wont turn on with openign any door, but will work on the dash switch.... :o

The problem is usually near a splice or door post. In this case, the driver's door post OR the splice in the rear passenger door / speaker area (4door / 2door).

As for the problem with courtsey lights, that a broken wire running from the GEM to the interior lamp (LG/O) OR... a broken lamp relay... :-)
