Ok my 92 Explorer has 280xxx miles on it and it has been the most reliable car i have ever seen(except for trans). However i recently noticed after being parked for a while that it is leaking alot more oil around the valve covers and oil pan. This is my daily driver in the winter and use it upnorth to drive around trails.Theres a junkyard by my cabin and its usually really cheap parts so ill get my engine there. I want to rebuild the engine pretty much stock, maybe port the heads/intake. I dont know how much that would add anyone? Anywho does anyone have any suggestions for me? Im 17 years old and have only done 2 full engine overhauls. Hopefully when my scholership comes through i can but the rest of the tools needed.
Are there any tools needed just for the 4.0?
Whats the best repair manual? Haynes?
What should i look for when getting a engine from junkyard(usually cant tell milage)
Wheres a nice place to get a full gasket set? Are new pistons/rods(all internal parts usually required to be changed in these engines?
While im at it what should i do to the rest of the car? as far as Diff. fluids, transfer case?? I have been told all my life not to change the trans fluid with high miles so im not sure about the others.
Thanks for any help
