Engine Seized,Can't Remove Torque Converter

This morning I went out to swap all my parts. I'm just down to the TC and FW.

I was able to remove 2 of the torque converter nuts but the other two I can't get to.

There's just not enough room to get a 1/4" drive in there.

any suggestions?

try removing the heads and cleaning all the crap out of the cylinders. then stick a pry bar up them from the underside and hit it a few times the pull the pry bar out and try spinning it again. it is time consuming.
 






I'll give it a shot.

Another question.

Some tranny fluid spilled out. How much do I know to replace. quesstimate?
 






I just pulled the bearing caps off the piston rods until it started to turn.:thumbsup:
 






Did you try removing the spark plugs and squirting some WD40 into cylinders and letting it sit for a little? That might allow you to rotate the crank.
 






Clearances are really tight in those block. When Painter Ken's rod bent, the bottom of the cylinder actually made contact with one of the weights on the crank shaft. Cleaning the cylinders or pulling spark plugs would have been futile. Luckily we were able to get all 4 torque converter bolts.

Did all that awhile back and a breaker bar and 3ft cheater and nothing.

Pulling the bearing caps was pretty quick and easy.

Either way I got them out and am going to pretty much trash the engine.

It started raining so I don't guess I'll get a chance to go out drop the replacement in tonite.:mad:
 






is it a big puddle or a little puddle? if its a small puddle? if its small i would just start it up and drive a few miles to get it warmed up then check the level and start adding a half quart at a time until it full. everytime you add a half quart you should run the truck through the gears a few times before you check the fluid level. to let any air pockets out.

It was just a small puddle not too bad maybe 3/4 of a quart +/-.

I don't really know much about them other than what it does.

It was my understanding the TC fluid level is seperate from the tranny.
I know when I replaced a tranny I had to add fluid to the TC.
Does the tranny actually feed the TC fluid and filling it prior to instalation was just to prevent burning it up?

I am by no means a mechanic but, I'd rather jack my stuff up than pay someone else to do it.;)
 






it is all part of the trany fluid level. the tranny does feed the transmission cooler. fill that up first would have been to help prevent it from burning up. if the transmission is full i wouldnt worry about it.
 






I was abbreviating torque converter (TC) since that was the topic of conversation. (my bad)
 






the tranny should re fill it and all you should have to do is refill the tranny.
 






Can the motor be pulled out with the TC still bolted? Will it slide forard off the tranny shaft?
 






97 explorer 4.0 siezed

Can I remove the motor on the eddie bauer with the torque converter bolted on? Engine siezed and needs to come out.
 






There's usuaally not much room to slide the engine forward. But you can remove the transmission first since the transmission can be removed even with the torque converter still bolted to the flexplate. Just make sure to support the transmissions during removal or else its weight rests solely on the input shaft (this applies to transmission removal/install in general)
 






hello folks got a computer guy here attempting to remove a siezed engine outta my explorer 98 the tranny should still be good right?? my goal is to get the transmission out of the 98 an place it in my 97 explorer. my 97 explorer has a tough time gearing past 3rd as it cant gain any speed and when it does it only goes 70km down hill
 






The seized engine should not have affected the transmission.
