Ok, long story short is my 97 has some trans issues and w/240k on the clock and also owning her for 9yrs, I believe she has done me good and time to make a decision.

1. Drive it to scrap yard and collect my $500.
2. Sell it on craigslist for $600 (had a few bites already)
3. Sell my neighbor the transfer case, keep the engine for myself(still strong) and throw it in my 98 and take the remaining to the scrap yard and also turn the cats in later for another $100 cash.

Im leaning toward the third option myself. I get a engine(since the 98 has timing chain rattle) and stil get about $500 cash after scrapping and selling the t-case

So I've been reading here and there and just need clarification of what all I would need to pull from the 97 to do a successful swap to the 98, keeping PATS in mind so I have no issues.

- engine

- steering column (cause of PATS?, think I read that as well, plus I like the look of my 97 steering wheel anyway over the 98 eddie bauer s.wheel.)

- new torque converter since I will be in the area.

Im sure there was more stuff I needed to pull as well, but I've been reading here and there so im sure I forgot a few things.. so any added info would be great regarding anything I forgot or if im on track w/the above.

Thanks in advance.

when you say swap, do you mean just to do a motor swap? if so, you just need the motor, and nothing else. everything should plug and bolt in from the 97 to the 98. you wont need to worry about the pats at all.

Thanks for the reply vroom

Yes just swapping the motor. The trans in my 98 is good but the engine has timing chain rattle and its been getting worse. And since my 97 has trans problems but a great reliable engine I ffigured it'd pay off to have a back up ready to go in. Just wanted to make sure I pulled all parts needed before I scrap the rest of the truck and have to hunt for what I needed and didn't pull.

I could have swore I read somewhere that the pats systems in the 97 and 98 were different as my ignition keys are different. But like I said I only get to read here and there when I have a little free time at night and im sure some things slip my mind in the meantime.

Just use the harness off the 97 and everything will be just fine. The engines themselves are identical.

K, Thanks guys. Not sweating the engine swap, even doing the whole thing by myself.. I was just more worried bout PATS related issues really since I have read a few in the past.

Ok, no more over thinking things as I usually do. Gonna start draining and unbolting things tonight most likely.

If anyone else has anything to add, feel free.

Thanks again.
