Explorer 1992 - Overheating problem

You know, all your symptoms sound exactly what mine's doing. Except, I don't have an overheating problem, at least I don't think I do. Mine heats up somewhat quickly and around A the thermostat opens and drops down to O where it sits while I'm driving. I was idling at the Post Office today when I got an unexpected call and didn't bother turning off the engine. I watched the temp creep from O up to L and then heard the fan roar and it went down to A, the call ended and I drove off and it was down to O/R in a decent amount of time.

It was upper 90's today too.

To me, it sounds like everything is working normally. Without air flowing over the radiator (via speed or fan), it will heat up pretty quick.

Have you let it idle a while with the new temp sender? Where does it get up to? When does the fan kick in?
