Explorer Cranks But Wont Start

This happened to me when my 13 XLT was new. It had to be towed 3 times. First they changed the fuel pump, so far so good. Then it just stopped while I was waiting for a light. Next they changed the fuel pump control module. It ran good for another month. Then while I was cruising down the highway at about 65 MPH, it goes completely dead. Luckily I was in the slow lane and was able to coast to a safe stop on the shoulder. Another flatbed ride back to the dealer.

The dealer kept it for a week. Then they finally found my problem. The plastic connectors that held the fuel pump power wires together were only making intermittent contact. That’s why it was an on and off problem. It’s been running fine ever since.

Hello I'm new to the forum and have a perplexing issue that I'm hoping gets resolved soon. I have a 2017 explorer xlt that I bought used with only 24k miles on it one year ago. Honestly nicest car I've ever had I drove it everywhere even to hilton head on vacation very happy with no issues until two weeks ago. It wouldn't start one morning with the remote start so I tried regular push start and nothing crazy thing was it would try to start but it would get stalled while trying to crank and not actually turn over and start. So after two days of the same troubleshooting and no luck we had it towed to a personal mechanic who could not find the cause of it not starting. After that we had it towed to our local Ford dealership in town who got it started but when they did the lead mechanic knowledgeable guy said it was extremely loaded up with fuel from all the failed trys to start it. After two days there they determined that the original 4 1/2 year old battery was testing low and could be at fault which at the time made since due to our cold winter we are having here in ohio. So I had them replace the battery and everything worked well for 3 days until this past Monday morning my wife started it and it had a slower struggle start but did start and she drive it to work. At the end of her shift it would not start. Due to the weather we couldn't get it towed back to the dealership Tuesday mid day and they sometimes could get it started sometimes it wouldn't start. I did get it back today Friday and it has started consistently for 2 days being monitored at the dealership with fuel lines and no check engine codes with the determining factor being it was caused by a bad tank of gas due to it being filled up right before all this originally happened two weeks ago. If anyone has ever had or heard of this happening before any insight would be helpful. I just hope in the next few days I can run the tank down and fill it up and see if that was the cause.

If you think the gas is bad I wouldn’t be running it through the car. At the very least I’d fill it up to the brim immediately to cut it with “fresh” gas.

We are stumped. We had to jump our 2013 limited explorer, after jumping it sometimes it would start and other times it wouldn't. We replaced the battery and now it won't start. Push start button, when you push the button, lights come on and does its usually beeping, and screen is working. We have checked ALL fuses and they all good. My husband is a machine mechanic and grew up worked on cars. This one has us completely stumped. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I need my SUV running!

Cars only need 3 things to start: air, fuel and spark.

I would start simple by using ForScan to check for codes even if the CEL is not on. This may just give you the answer. If not...

Then check to make sure fuel is in the rail and pressurized

Then check your coils / ignition system.

After replacing the battery did you reset the BMS (Battery Management System) and let the vehicle sit undisturbed for 8 hours? The rest will erase the memory of the old battery and letting it sit will allow the BMS to learn the state of the new one. This may not be causing the issue you are having but should be performed regardless.

Anyone having this issue?
I bought this vehicle new in 2019 and no issues at all. Great car.
Now, when you push the ignition button, the vehicle will crank (turn over) but the engine will not start.
There is no pattern to this. It did it for the first time in July, and has done it a few more times since then. It had done it at all times of the day, and fuel levels.
Took it to the dealership for diagnosis. I was told the engine did not "throw any codes" nor would it not start when it was at the dealership. Go figure?
Any ideas as to how to fix this are much appreciated.
Thank you.

welcome to EF! does everything dim? if not, i wonder if it is the check valve on the fuel pump? does priming it multiple times help?

So are you saying the dealer confirmed there were no codes and it wouldn't start and that's it?? They didn't attempt to find out why?
Have you attempted to get a boost?

Hold key fob next to start button
Welcome to the Forum Robert.
I'm not sure why you quoted me. I was just asking a member if he had an update. As it turns out, the member was last seen here on March 30, 2019. Not sure what holding the keyfob next to the start button will do. If the fob battery is weak, then there is a place for it in the console's special slot.

My 2018 Explorer with 8k miles on it, will crank and not start, this has happened a couple times. It was towed to dealership and after sitting a couple days it started for them. They checked for codes and it didn't show any. It is still at the dealership and they are waiting to hear from Ford. There is clearly a problem, but dealership can't find it. Any helpful info??
I have the same thing going on! Very annoying

Unfortunately, the member you quoted never did come back with any info regarding a fix. He was last seen here on Jan. 15, 2019.
What if anything have you done so far? Have you checked the starter motor? Any trouble codes? Have you tried getting the vehicle boosted/jumped?

I have a similar but diffrent issue..i have a 17' Explorer Interceptor with the 3.7 and i just changed the crankshaft position sensor. And let me just add, it sucked royally!!! They said that is supposed to be a job that is like a 2 hour job that ended up taking me almost 2 days (weather and life factored in as well) but after checking over everything, Explorer will just crank and will not start. I have been over everything at least a dozen times. Any ideas? Id greatly appreciate the help!

50/50’test

Does it start when you put a small
Amount of ether (startingmfluid) in the intake past the throttle body?

If so you have a fuel issue

If not then you have a spark issue
