OK, finally got round to get a couple of pics taken of the PC I've installed.

got rid of the RDS7000, trimmed the dash a little with the trusty dremel and installed 7 inch touch screen, still need to find some black silicon sealent to fill round the edges though.

Sumicom 2.4ghz P4, 120GB HDD, 1GB ram
mobile broadband internet
bluetooth GPS

mostly just used to play my MP3's at the moment though..

This would be really cool to do. You have just about any option you'd want right there. No more need for Mp3 discs, ipods, or just about anything.

don't think I'll get away with reading emails whilst driving, plod wouldn't be happy however I think that voice recognition and text to speech software might work :-D need to sort the radio first though, got a USB stick that I'm modding to attach to the aerial, already cooked one with the soldering iron though.

screen will do 1024x768 however I run it at 800x600 as it's a bit too small to read otherwise.

got all my mp3's on and 3 or 4 movies recorded from my Archos, still plenty of space left.

only problem I have at the moment is that I occasionally have to rebuild windows as it's a standard 3.5inch drive that doesn't like bouncing around in the back of the Ex, need to get a 2.5inch laptop drive or better still a solid state drive which would take the knocks alot better.

Why not install windows on a usb stick and boot from that? A standard drive is always going to be a problem, unless you dampen the case.

Good work there fella. Did the dash need much 'trimming?' I've got an old mini mac that might have found itself a new home.

I considered using a flash memory but decided due to number of times it can be writen too that a normal HDD was the way to go, might rethink that though.

the dash didn't need to much trimming although to be on the safe side I got a 2nd one to work on so I still have the original in a cupboard.
most 7inch monitors will fit in a double din hole, it's the monitor housing that can be a problem. there's quite a few carpc's built using the mac mini so should work nicely
