Explorer Sport Moab Edition???

Hi,

I got a 1999 Explorer Sport Moab Edition back in May. I am wondering what the Moab Edition is. I have seached all over the internet and cannot find any information at all on it. The Ford dealership that I got it from said it was very rare. The only difference that I have noticed that it looks like it has a lift kit, it is a lot taller that other Explorer Sports...it could be because it has larger BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A tires but i don't know. I hope someone here knows what all the differences are between this edition and the regular Sport. Sorry if I sound so deficient in my auto vocab, but I am a 17yr old girl and have no clue about car stuff.

This is cool I think you must have bought your Explorer from somone on this site or it used to belong to someone from this site in the past.

The "Moab Edition" Explorers was started by one of sites moderators gjarrett (Gerald Jarrett). Gerald added the "Moab Edition" decals to his Explorer after our all Explorer Moab get together (click this link to see the event http://www.explorer4x4.com/moab_report.html) . Several people followed his lead and added the decals to their Explorers.

This was definately not a factory option.

Tell us more about your Explorer. Who did you buy it from? What color, any modifications??

I believe Alec's is a Moab Edition............either that or he just stuck a sticker on.

He should know exactly what differences there are.

I have a Moab edition 4-door too. Yeah I would say they are pretty rare LOL, what about 30 of us have them? (the sticker that is )

Hey, thanks for all the info.

Here's what I know about it. My parents got it for me May 17 at Marshall Mize Ford in Chattanooga, TN. From what the salesman told me, I know that it was a trade in from a man who traded for a new Ford Escape. The guy bought it new in Ohio and then moved to Tennessee. Mine is bright red with a few modifications that I know of. It looks like it has been lifted but I can't tell. Does anyone know how I can figure out if it's been lifted? It has some added fog lights mounted right under the grill but they don't seem to work...either they aren't hooked up or the bulbs are burnt out. Dealership couldn't find a switch for them. It also has a front hitch added on and a factory hitch in the back. This truck is beautiful..in my opinion. Whoever had it took exceptionally good care of it. Many people have complemented that it looks like I just drove it out of the showroom. I have pics but can't load them to the internet because my scanner and digital camera aren't compatible with my new computer's windows XP.

I've got a 2000 XLT Moab Edition

2001 was the year that Gerald made the batch of "Moab Edition" stickers. I don't recal ever seeing a red sport, but i was never on the stock runs. You'd think we'd remember if someone drove from Tenn. or Ohio to Moab. I'm thinking its not a real "Moab Edition". . . LOL

You have Tom Wilk's Explorer Sport. Darn, kinda sad to hear. Tom used to be very active on this site until he moved to Ohio.

Does this look like your truck This photo was taken in 2000 so he may have changed some things since then.
I'm glad you found our site. I hope you find it useful. Maybe you could even join us at one of our Explorer get togethers one of these days.

I found that pic too, Rick. I guarantee that is my truck. Looks exactly like it down to the fog lights and bug guard. This is so weird...what a small world. The only difference that I see is that there is a big antenna on the top of it, but I suppose that could have been removed.
