I had installed the fairly new Accel coil pack (140035) in October of last year and everything seemed fine. A couple of misfires later, I thought Id start changing out the plugs. Mind you my X is sitting at 46,000 and 5 years old, so I thought a quick tune up would revitalize it.

I got to replacing my plugs with new Autolite iridiums, and noticed no improvement. Driving it a while longer, the situation did not improve as it was running imo up to par.

I took it to my shop and they did a primary and secondary on it. Turns out my wires (with only about 25,000 on it) went bad along with the coil. It seems it was not oscillating correctly.

I was wondering if this coil pack I had caused my wires to burn out, and maybe lead to those earlier misfires. Is this thing too hot? Should the oscillations be at or near stock?

Accel usually makes good ignition equipment but this thing apparently failed. Stock coil pack and wires back on, and running well now.

What are your opinions on it?

This can serve as a product evaluation piece for this pack too....

Stock coil packs put out about 19K volts, Accell coil packs really only put our about 20-21K volts, MSD's are putting out 29Kvolts, Granetellis are putting 40-60K volts depending on the version you buy. I have just picked up a set of Weapon X guaranteed to put out 60K volts & will have data on the dyno within 6 weeks or so. Dyno testing the weapon X coil packs & brisk plugs on a bone stock 02 4.6L to be able to get an accurate gain.

Please make a pull with stock packs, and another with the only change being the coilpacks, if you could. I am interested.

That what I will be doing, I just picked up the mounty last week, as soon as I get some tranny issues worked out I will start a full R&D dyno testing of the following.

Custom 2.5" Magnaflow Dual Exhaust
Weapon X Coil Packs
Brisk LGS Plugs
C&L Plenum
Accufab 75 MM TB
Custom Intake
Underdrive Pulleys
Electric Fan
Our Diablosport Tune
then some odd & end tricks we do on mustangs & lightnings.

As soon as I start I will be starting a full thread, I should be able to do it in the span of 2 weeks once I start. Just doing alot of detailed research & comparison of some of our mustang parts for now.

I just replaced the front wheels hubs. I will also be redoing the rear end & rear wheel hubs & brakes along with the tranny before I start everything. Its got 115K miles so I needed alittle TLC before I start beating on it..

OH yeah & then comes a roots blower..You guys will drool over this setup. But that may be 4-6 months.

I'm having a problem similar with the Accel Coil pack. (p/n 140036) I wanted to put a little more spark in my 250,000 4.0 sohc so I decided to go with Accel. Soon as I installed it (and I was careful to placed each wire on the same post as the OEM coil) The engine would not start, It would crank over and make horrible noises. My first thought was I messed up the firing order somehow, so I got the Haynes manual out and double checked everything twice. Firing order was correct. My only thought now was, it must be a faulty coil. So I returned it and got another coil. installed it again and same thing.
Am I missing something here? Is there something else that has to be done before mounting on an Accel coil pack ? Customer service said it was the correct part for my X, but he also said I may need other parts ?? Anyone have a similar experience with Accel? Your help please!
