Still working on the driver side since i had to do some bondo surgery (it was bad). But here is the passenger side finished. I trimmed the hell out of it then grinded it smooth and masked off the area i wanted to shoot with a spray in truck bed liner. The underside got bed liner too. The rest of the now exposed stuff (since no more plastic wheel well) just got hit with rustolium satin black. Turned out damn good i think. Oh and i went over the edge with black door trim i picked up at AutoZone. Comments? Just be gentle on the criticism, first time cutting and trimming this much.

I like it, looks pretty good, and hopefully won't rust on you anytime soon. I've got to do some work on mine, A for rust and B, a shop (buddies garage) decided to try to jack it up by the little fender tab at the bottom near the driver's side door. So I've got a nice warp in it. Awesome dude!

when u see black fedner trim..is that a tape of some kind orr what? also..how much of the fender have y ou physically cut out? it looks really good/sporty..but im trying to imagine how much fender you've actually removed..did you gain any clearance? i am only rubbing a bit on the back on teh passenger front with my 35s (because of some bent internals) so i was lookin at cutting ability, but it seens i would need to chunk a section out, not just "trim"

edit- with further examination i see it loks like y ou cut out the "flat" part of thefender, the lip that goes straight down..so you cut it off where it stops flaring..am i correct? how did u cut them?

I think they both look kickass, do either of you have pics of the inside of the fender with everything installed? I need to trim mine in the next few weeks and would like as much insight as possible, like the other fellow said what did you use to trim the fenders?

...i like it but i must say i really like your tires and wheels...;) ...btw, i have all red e.b. front fenders with a grey truck ...:dunno: ....it's nice to see an all red X....:D

looks good.. i like it.. what are the lift specs and tires on ur explorer? looks real good

at work right now, but tonight i plan on throwing a few more pics up and showing how much was actually cut off, what sprays were used, tools for cutting etc. and lift/tire specs....later guys and thanks for all the comments.

that would b very helpful.. was that fender trim stuff..paint or tape or what?

Great work, looks cool!!

Rhino liner would look awesome for trimming the area

You need an alignment.

Finished the fenders

Well got the driver side done tonight. So my 94 Explorer with 5.5" Superlift is now riding on buckshot muds 35x12.5x15 on 15" on American Racing Baja 13mm (i think) offset rims. (picked up a new camera too, hence all the pics)

As far as how much was removed....not sure if this really shows or not but this is the removed peice. pretty much when the flare drops straigh down i started cutting and followed that on around.

Preffered weapon of choice?? Task Force electric grinder $30 at lowes and a couple of think DeWalt cutting wheels $1.97 each. oh, and a powered hand sander.

The molding i put on was from advanced auto parts $5.99 and you'll need two packs.

What i did was i first cut the metal off following the flare of the fender with the grinder and cutting wheel. then took the grinding wheel to it to smooth it out. sanded the hell out of the inside with the power sander and some rough sand paper. sprayed the inside of the fenders with Rustolium, then went over the inside edge and a little more (but not the whole thing) with the spray in bed liner ($7 per spary can at advanced). do a couple coats. then with the outside of the fender i used electrical tape (bends easier) to mask off as close as i could to where the fender started to flare and followed it around. cut up paper bags works great to tape up to keep the rest of the fender clean. you really need to sand the masked off area pretty good for the bed liner to stick really well but be careful not to destroy the electrical take (get as close as you can to the tape). spray several coats being sure to get a good bit on the edge, i think i did like 4 coats. Once both sides have dried then just press on the door molding and then trim off what is left. The molding also hides any non perfect cuts you might have made when trimming the fender. Just be sure to let the bed liner dry all the way or it will peel off when you put the molding on.

I was rubbing the fender pretty bad before the trim, to the point that i did not even atempt to drive it. I put the tires on and was just like, hell no, there was maybe 30% stearing before it rubbed. Oh, and i also trimmed a little of the cab as well, you can see it in the 6th picture i posted earlier. There is a 45 degree angle that has the modling on it as well. I had to trim that to get the clearance that i really wanted, I don't want to worry about it even during suspension flex. I also used the grinder/cutter to trim up my plastic wheel well to help keep some of the junk from getting into the engine bay, not that its going to do much good, but i wanted to put as much of the wheel well back in as possible. Seen in previous pics 2,3, and 6. My bumper is still off because it was close to rubbing, about a centemeter when the tires lined up right. A little body roll probably would have made it rub. So it is still off and waiting for its own hack job, i might do that this weekend. keeps me busy at least.

As far as an alignment, i need the tires balanced too but who's keeping track :p:

i'm just giving you ****. the most alignment my truck has had is when i eyeballed after putting the dana 30 in.

still slightly in the dark.. so you taped the fenders off and the bulk of that black is painted on..then just around the edge of the fender, you lined with the fender trim..so the trim was like a "C" shape that cupped the edge of the fender? and di dyou simply glue it up on to it and hold it?

the black is spray in bedliner on the outside of the fenders. I only did the rustomlium on the inside of the fender with bed liner overtop of it. The molding is "C" shaped and in the crevice there is alreayd this uber sticky glue, not quick drying, 24 hours to fully glue. But it will hold itself up there once you put it on, rub it down good and then a day later its pretty solid. Hopefully this weekend i'll get around to the bumper and finish it up.

perfect...thank you very much for the clarification.. i plan to do this exact mod when i get a nice break from school.. is ther anyway, with your new camera, you could snap a shot or two of the "notch" y ou cut out fo the cab you mentioned as well..cause i believe i will need to do this on my passenger side cab as well..

thanks again
