okay here in beautiful British Columbia, Vancouver we have a HUGE HUGE problem with stole cars. I think they say around 200 cars get broken in to day and 60 are stolen. This is each DAY!!! So you know my 94 XLT was a target. The driver side lock was punched. But the alarm went off...
SO what I want to do is just take out the passenger side lock and fill it. Just one less lock to worry about. What I want to know is how hard will it be to fill the lock hole and will the cause any problems?
:can:

Plastic Fillers won't hold and will lead to rust.
Fiberglass won't hold and will lead to rust.

You will have to weld in a patch slightly Submerged. and then Lightly fill it with a Fiberglass Reinforced Filler.

Another option.
you can also use Panel Adhesive.
But you will have to have access to the rear of the door shell.
The rear of the Shell around the Handle would have to be stripped and have some Abrasion done. and some holes would have to be Drilled.
Then you would make a patch and use the panel adhesive and put it on the back side of the Shell over the handle.

Then the Adhesive would be sanded back, And you would lightly fill it with a Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic Filler.

I'm busy right now but Later. I can give you more Details on either one if you want.

Like ratstang said, a metal patch is the only reliable way to go about it.
Done correctly plastic body filler will work just fine.

and how much$ would it cost me to get some one to do it? Or is it possible for me to learn how to do it than do it myself. I can pick things up very quick.

It would'nt be cheap... Because you would have to do patch work, Body work, And paint work. ( I would guess total in the $150-250 US Range.)

What about something less permanent. Like maybe remove the handle, And get a piece of Stainless Steel, Round off the Edges, Polish it up, and Screw it to the door.
But you may need to make a gasket for it.

This will allow you to keep people out of your truck, And not have any sort of long term Problems.

There are many plates you could probably get or make for it.

Maybe something to think about.

Ohhh you are talking about the Locks. (Opps...) I thought you were talking about the handles. (Duh...)

But really everything above still applies.

It would be nice if you can take the inside door cover off. Spot weld some this sheet metal across hole. Now on the outside the metal that you or someone welded would be a little resessed in from the finished door. Then it's just little basic body work with a filler.

How come the car stealing is so high? What kind of gun rights do you have there? Sounds to me that some people have to start fighting back.

hahaha well we can have guns all we like. But we dont go that way I guess. First you got to catch the lil fu*kers doing it. Than what I think I would do is grab a bat and have at em... Not about to go to jail over my XLT!!! I am not too sure why so high I think its the meth / crack heads.
I went to ford and they want $300 to fix my lock, what they will do is change every lock.... I also have an option to get the lock rebuilt... But no lock would just be better! :fire:

Just put something in the lock so a key won't go in it, that way you still have the look of the lock.

Move out of Surrey. It IS the car theft captiol!!!

There is a very simple steel spring clip which holds the lock in place. How much damage is done to the lock cylinder when they punch it?

I would want to keep the stock look. Why not use the existing good lock where you want it, and install something of the other lock in the other side. I assume that the thief simply forces the broken cylinder to turn, yes?

Inside the door each lock cylinder has a short rod attached to it, leading to the latch. Remove that rod from the lock which you want to disable, the lock will no longer do anything. If they are knocking the lock out somehow, and fishing inside for the rods, you might have to make a shield inside. That would still be unseen from the outside, no cosmetic work needed.

Do you still have something of the bad lock left? If not, almost any Ford lock will attach there. Good luck,

yes it sure is, but this happend in down town vancouver! I am going to get a lock smith to see if he can rebuild the lock. I guess they can do some crazy work with a broken lock.

Ah, so you changed your mind about disabling the lock?

If your still set on removing the lock just pull the door panel off and disconnect the lock.

Lol Surrey. Note to self, invest in high dollar alarm system before i go back to Vancouver.

oh yeah you want to do that! I am not 100% sure what I want to do now. The lock smith was not 100% sure if he can fix it and if he cant he will still charge me to try...
I would really like to just fill the hole. Mite look alright too.

How about electrifying the car lol Halifax is pretty bad too, my sister's car(s) been broken into about 5 times in 2 years. one, a pathfinder, was stolen and burnt 2 days after she bought it!

This is how you do it:

An option to welding the patch in the hole that would make it a little easier if you're not setup for welding is to use a metal glue like JB Weld, glue a piece of metal behind the lock hole on the inside of the door. Then cut a piece of metal to the shape and size of the hole then glue it in the hole on top of the backing plate you glued on the inside of the door. Then you still have to do all of the regular body filling, sanding and painting.
