Finally changed the fuel filter...

I finally changed the fuel filters in the 6 liter today. On the way home from a long trip yesterday it began running horrible. I wasn't sure if it was going to stay running the last 10 miles to my house. Luckily it did and luckily I had a new filter set sitting in the garage for the last 6 months.

This is what Mexico diesel and 85,000 miles will do to your primary filter.

How did your diesel do on the way out and back??

I am waiting on tires, wheels, and a steering box.

The black is common for a diesel filter. I try to change the F250's about every 15k miles. To help with the cost, I bought some in bulk once.

The crud on the inside, now that's a different thing. I wonder how much more of that crud is still in the tank.

Fricken AWESOME man! I just cruised between 70-75mph since I was caravaning with CG and RangerX. I didn't even feel the truck behind me until I hit bumps on the highway. The dude I borrowed it from is still out of town, but I left him a note in the truck to let me know when he's ready to sell it. I want it...baaad!!

Everything off diesels are black. You can change the oil with fresh clear oil and it'll be black as soon as it gets to the pan. :thumbdwn: However, I love diesels - messy as crap, and stain more, but I love 'em

hehehe.. I did 70, still got 12+ mpg, with the Camper loaded up. Amazing I tell you!

It was fun to pass other slow pokes on the highway. Put your foot in it, and wait. I finally saw an EGT of over 1200 degrees, the Edge Juice was at 75% back down at that point. I love just putting the ol' foot in it and GO.

I got an average mpg of 15.4 for the trip there and back.

You mentioned that you replaced the primary filter. How many filters are there, and where are they? Which 6 liter vehicle is this?

That's the one on the frame rail much like our Explorers. The second (smaller) one is next to the oil filter under the hood.

It's an F-250.

No, my PSD has just 1, but it's HUGE.

Fuel pressure in a diesel is NOT comparable to fuel pressure in a gas EFI system. The pressure in a diesel can be in the thousands of PSI.

The new diesels still use 2 batteries; mostly for the glow plugs/heaters and the high torque starters needed to turn over the engine.
