Finally picked up the 93!

Finally picked up the truck tonight. I got a bit of a laundry list. Runs a little hot, 4x4 doing the clicking with no light thing, a CEL light I think is caused by the MAF at this point. From what I gather rough idle, running rich, and CEL lights can point to a dirty MAF.

Body is good, almost perfect except a bit of rust inside drivers door. Door needs new hinge pins, and the inside handle is cracked because the door needs rehung. Right turn signal works(flashes the outside light) but inside light and "clicker" doesn't work, only left does. Some burned out dash lights. Missing rear wiper. Yep, I got me a little project.

I'm sure I'll need some guidance here soon! LOL

It's funny I looked at a 93 this past weekend that had a clicking 4x4 and wouldn't engage 4lo. It cracked and growned going into 4hi then a loud bang when I tried 4lo. The owner wouldn't budge enuff on the price to make it worth me swapping the transfer case though so I had to pass on it.

...A rough idle and a CEL can be a number of different things..:scratch:

...Get yourself a paperclip, go to the EEC-IV section of the Forum (located in the "Under the Hood" sub Forum) and pull your own codes...

Get that hot running and the codes fixed first. I'd probably just swap the thermostat to be safe. Try a search on running hot. There might be some other things to try also. I'd recommend changing all the fluids also. Tranny, engine, diffs, transfer case once you get it working.

Depending on how things go I'm going to start changing fluids this weekend, the running hot issue is going to have to wait, i don't think it's getting dangerous yet, not good but not dangerous. But that and the CEL are at the top of my list, I'll get the codes pulled as soon as I get some daylight or have a chance to drop by autozone.

This truck is just such a contradiction. It shows 60000 miles and the seller swore those were the original miles but I told him no way(he hadn't owned the truck that long anyway), it had to be 160,000, but now I'm not so sure. Seats are perfect, just dirty, no wear or tears, steering wheel and shifter are perfect also, arm rest looks new. Paint is perfect and seem to be the original factory paint, everything works except some burned out dash lights. Engine is dirty and kinda rusty, but it was a northern truck and things rust used or not. Clutch, gas, and break pedal are not very worn, but the emergency break pedal is all jacked up and the pad is pretty much gone. He did say he just replaced the radial arm bushings, but bushings can go out with age as well as miles. Second gear syncro's are a bit out of wack, and I don't think age would cause that just miles. The other issues I have like the heating issue and the CEL could be age and not just miles as well. I would think the door sag could indicate high miles, but I used to run a paper route and tore up my doors in 6 months. I just can't figure it out, wish the damn 1st gens had a 6th digit on the OD!! I just don't see how a truck could go that many miles and still have so little wear in many high wear areas, and then show so much wear in areas that don't seem like normal wear items.

Just be happy you have a good body on it. The rest of the stuff is easily fixable with trips to the local pull n save and some elbow work!

congrads did ur x come stock with the 3rd row seating or did the previous owners put the 3rd row seating. Cause my bro in law had a 93 sport and his didnt come with the 3rd row seating. Or was it an option to have it in 93.

I don't think they came stock that way, but those seats are ATTACHED! I was having trouble getting the bolts out so I climbed under to check it out and it's bolted to this stock looking steel bar running along the frame. This bar seems designed just to attach this seat, currently the bolts/nuts are soaking in WD40 and I bought some PB blaster I'm going to hit them with too before I try the bolts again. It's been in there so long the bolts and nuts are rust fused together pretty much. I bet I'm going to have to break the nuts or bolts in the end, they are ate up, but I'm going to try and save em if I can. the seat belts are Ford so I don't know if it was some weird factory special order or just a really good after market, fabric matches the interior fabric. I just don't want it, it takes up all the room in the back but the last 10" or so, it's a SPORT for petes sake and that means it's almost a foot shorter then a 4 door, an adult couldn't really use it and be comfortable by any means, and I want the cargo room. If I ever need to seat 6 in my Sport I'll throw it in.

Plus I would think if it was factory they would have some kind of quick release or at least lay down. These don't do anything but get in the way! LOL

I used a 2' breaker bar on a strut knuckle bolt that wouldn't budge... of course it breaks inside the hole and I had to drill straight thru it.....

Oh, back on topic, I have seen 70's cars in junkyards in AZ and other hot dry states that looked like they were driven off the showroom floor earlier in the year. So I wouldn't put to much faith in looks. You'd be surprised how well seat covers, floor mats and regular maint keeps your vehicle looking new. I'd call 60k miles for a 16y/o vehicle with multiple owners near impossible.
