fog light wattage rating

I have an '05 explorer with the factory fog lamps. I wanted to switch to some brighter bulbs for the fog lights. I was reading a post written by Bill that mentions that the factory lamps are #9145 (45W rating) and the the bulbs can be converted to #9005 (55W). Can someone help me and figure out how the conversion works? And also what mods need to be done for the additional wattage of the #9005 bulb?

I believe you just have to modify the base of the bulb. It can handle the extra 10 watts of power. You can make a custom harness for piece of mind if you like.

You could also look into an HID kit that would kick the butt of any other light out there...
