I have a 2002 Explorer XLT. I have checked the fuses and bulbs, both are in good shape. When I turn on the headlights and pull out the knob the light on the dash comes on but still no lights. Does anybody know what else it could be? Thanks !!!

You don't have the brights on, do you? They turn off when the brights are on.

nope only the low beam

everythings connected nice and secure?, loose solder joint maybe?

everything is sung but still will not work

Get out the voltmeter.

There is a fuse and a relay in the power junction box. Have you checked those?

In the battery junction box, engine compartment, check fuse #44 (10 amp ),and then the fog lamp relay for pwr at the Dk Blue/LT Grn wire.

I will try that but got to get my hands on a volt meter, I'm sure a friend probally has one laying around some where, or I can break down and buy one they are not that expensive

definately buy one, its a great tool to have

OK there are no prongs in fuse slot #44 to hole the fuse. But yet there are foglights and on the dash lights up when you pull the switch out. Now I'm really confused !!!!

Have the fog lights ever worked? The information i gave was from my Haynes Manual.

I just purchased it last weekend so I'm not really sure!!!

I'm confused too. Have you checked in your Owners Guide to see for sure where power fuse #44 is located in the power junction box? There is a nice graphic in the owners guide in the chapter called Roadside Emergencies that shows where all the fuses (and relays) are locate.

One other thing, I think the key has to be in the on position (maybe the engine has to be running?) for the fogs to work.

Yeah used the owners manual to figure out where it was located. And yes I have tried it several different ways off,on, and running and still nothing. The thing that gets me is the fact that there is no prongs in that location and that is what is throwing me for a loop. But there is a relay in the foglight location. So I am really lost at this point, does anybody have any more suggestions?

I wonder if yours was made for export? Maybe fuse #14 in the PJB feeds your fogs.

here's a dumb question...have you got down and looked from the foglights back? i new someone who bought a vehicle and he didn't know it had recently got front bumper damage...the previous owner had the bumper repaired at a shop and when they took it off, the just cut the wires...yours could be cut or disconected...

After reading your last thread, pulled my Owner's Guide, I would check All fuse's and relay's that have anything to do with fog lights. This way you might be able to determin, if you have an export / Canada or local truck. You might want to get what is caled a Bug light. Ground clip on 1 end and light and probe on the other. Cost is about the same as a cheep meter. This way you can check for a hot / live wire. Maybe this will help.

Did some more digging today found the wires that run from the fog lights to the switch and then to the PJB but really cant tell where they go in the box w/o taking it apart which I really dont want to do. I'm going to mess around with it a little more tommrow since it got dark on me. Maybe I will be able to figure this one out. I am starting to loose sleep of this...LOL just kidding. But it is bugging the crap out of me !!!!

dark time is the best time to do this...go right to the parts store and tell them you want an electrical tester that pokes into a wire and lights up when the wire is hot...it is usually 5 to 10 dollars max, found them for 2 at harbor freight...anyway, go home and grab a flash light...you onnly need it to see the wire you are penetrating...turn off the flashlight and poke the wire...if you would have done this, only in referance to your last post, you would be done, lmao...the night time is the best to see the light come on...sometimes in the daylight you can't even see it...anyway, you have no excuse now not to write us back and tell us what you found to be the problem now...
