Ford Explorer 97 TAILGATE SHOCKS.

The ping that holds the strut on the tailgate is broke. How I can fix this without buying a new base. There is a chance to buy a new ping or modify the existing part. I not want to unweld this part because the heat will damage the paint on the tailgate. Please let me know where I can find a replacement strut or something that could help me on this situation.

Not sure what the "ping" is, but you can get a new strut at most auto parts stores.
