Should go for dirt cheap!

hmm, a lot of the Dodge 1500 5.2s.

Like their looks with the shortbed, too bad the trannys suck.

Just make sure that you look at them really well. The condition just depends on who had use of it. On the plus side I can tell you that all of the USFS vehicles get all their regular service + a in depth annual inspection. :D

I found a Tow Rig! :D well, except for the 351 in it... :(

This one has a 460 though :D

The site says there is a sale here in So Cal on June 8th.

You don't want a 460. You'll probably think you have a gas leak somewhere in the lines. And after like 100k they're about over with.

I went and looked at them today. Here's what I decided.

The one Ranger with 29k on it is pretty nice. It will probably go for a lot of $ though. The other 4WD one with 86k or so has obviously spent it's life up in the mountains on a dirt road. It is dusty as fawk. It could use new tires soon. The interior is pure dirt. I like it. It might actually go for cheap.

If the Rangers don't work out, I was thinking about the Rams. The one has interior in pretty rough condition (missing the center armrest/seat section) and it's dirty as well. But with a little TLC it might make a good DD. It would be more practical being a fullsize extended cab as well. I'd rather have an F150, but all the one's here were standard cabs. But I may bid on an ext cab that I have not seen if it's a good enough deal. What could possibly be wrong with one that I could not fix??

Again, haveing worked for the kali F.S, these trucks see major use, they are indeed serviced at fords recommended intervals.
But the F.S do's not sell them intil they are on there last legs, is a government auction. beware

What just because it get 9-10MPG :D

My mom had a '89 F350 4x4 Crew Cab SRW. With 33's you could lay scrath in that thing like it was nothing :p We always had a saying in the truck, Watch the speedometer go one way, and the gas gauge the other :( We called it "The Mothership" :D LOL!

I don't know how that "fleet" service works, but at the shop I am at, we have a good amount of fleets that we take care of and those trucks are the absolutely worse to work on. Most of our fleets are electricians or some sort of trade (garage doors, construction, phone service, etc.), and they are just torn apart (even at low mileage). Most of them are vans, and so when you remove the dog box (aka the engine cover from inside), there McDonald salt and pepper packets, straws, ketchup packets, dirty out the a-hole...it's just pitiful. So what does this have to do with this thread? Not much, but just know your TLC will be endless! :p

The 460 is a great engine, gets bad mileage but it pulls like a lot like a diesel.

Apologies. I don't know much from experience about their long term durability, but that's what I've heard about them. If you had a choice I'd have the Intertrashional 7.3L IDI motor.

If you tow 460s are cool, but you'd have to do like no miles for it to make sense.

Well I came home empty handed. I found out that these auctions are a lot like eBay. People will pay way too much for junk. :D The only decent deals were the Dodge Ram single cabs with transfer cases going out. They went for $2800ish. Other than that.. everything went for over Private Party bluebook I would say. Weak.
