My 98 Explorer looks like it still has the original Spicer CV joint on the front driveshaft. I would like to renew it with some fresh grease. Is that seal available by itself?

I would rather not replace it with a cheap aftermarket unit since it still seems to function properly (and I suspect the original CV is much higher quality than the Dorman replacements).

I've looked but haven't found the seal by itself, just the kits with the entire CV joint.

The Dorman CV joint has been working fine for me, for about 50k miles it was fine. I would buy that joint kit if you are worried, to replace the old one when it goes. You are right that the OEM joints are very good, it usually takes 10-20 years, and mismatched tires to hurt them.

There is a cheap brand kit from Detroit Axle, a new brand that pooped up a few years ago. That brand I'd avoid for any parts.
