Gateway to the Rubicon....

Hey All,
I went to Georgetown this weekend and I think that meeting in the middle of the street is good enough. For those of you that haven't been there before, you'll understand when you get there. Dead Link Removed I didn't know that Georgetown was that small. Dead Link Removed If you get to Georgetown you can't miss anyone. Dead Link Removed
Kvo what time are you thinking of going. Garrett if you leave an hour after I do, we can probably hook up around Sac. Kvo, we could do the same thing. Dead Link Removed
Thunderhorse, I guess I shouldn't assume that if you are going with a Bronco club that you have a Bronco. I would really like to see your Explorer. Dead Link Removed
Mac, I hope you can make it!

Ray -

It does not look like I will be able to make it this Saturday. My wife just told me that our nephew's b-day is this Saturday and my free pass to play is revoked!!!

Looking forward to see the pictures of all the people and their vehicles from the trip.

Khoa,

Sorry to hear you aren't going to make it on Saturday! It's always better to keep the 'missus' happy!

Keven,

I keep bugging Ji to call you...He has been really busy, said he'd call you tonight. He meant to over the weekend, but we got home too late each night.

Pete,

Ji and I go up there alot, so if you have a free weekend, let us know and we'll meet you! It may not be as fun as going with a larger group, but two explorers are better than one!

Ray,

Georgetown is tiny! Did you get the maps?

Take care guys! Remember to bring yourselves lots of water. It gets pretty hot up there - especially for those of you who are used to "coastal" weather. I know, we moved from the coast to here. It takes some getting used to! Looking forward to seeing you all!

Tami

Hi Ji/Tami,
Well I'm ready to rock and roll. I can't wait till Saturday! Dead Link Removed
Kvo, sorry you won't be able to make it. Dead Link Removed
I'll make sure I bring the Camera this time.
Garrett, Don't forget to check out Map Quest. I'm trying to get someone to make me a 1.5" x 2" x 3"block so I can mount my GM tow Hooks. Hopefully I will get the blocks and get the tow hooks installed before Saturday.
Tami, I have just been so busy that I didn't get a chance to get the map, but I'm sure you and Ji aren't going to get me lost. Dead Link Removed
Look forward to meeting and running with you all. Dead Link Removed

Hey Tami,
It's Kevin, with an I, but no problem, you learn to live with that with a last name like McInchak. Anyway, I am really looking forward to the trip and would rather find a hotel just off of I-80 just after Sac so I don't have to leave at 5:00am. Also ask Ji if he found me a big shackle for a front tow point. If not, we will just figure something out on the trail. It looks loke I am going to have a full load since Kyle and Sam are also coming along plus my two kids. Hopefully we can put one in a less loaded rig so everyone has the opportunity of a window seat.

Hey guys, I won't be joining you this weekend - family stuff is keeping me in So. Cal. for the weekend. I look forward to meeting up with you all at some point! Have fun, and I look forward to the pictures you guys post.

Well it looks like it's going the three of us on sat. Right !!! Hey Ray ,Kevin and I are going to camp sat. night. Would you like to join us ? We were going join Jerry (ThunderHorse) on the Rubicon sun.

On sat.I was trying to keep stock rig's in mind. But it looks like we don't have to. Well it's up to the group. We can start the Rubicon on sat. Let me know what your IDEAS ARE.

Thunderhorse ,
Still doing the trail Sun . RIGHT !!

Ji, Kevin,
I will be the only stock rig among you two, and it looks like my front tow hooks aren't going to be ready by Saturday. With only 31's and stock suspension, it doesn't look like I could do the Rubicon. Dead Link Removed Thank you for the invitation to go camping, but the Boss wants to stay in Tahoe, so I guess we're gonna pay our Nevada taxes. Dead Link Removed
We'll see you guys Saturday at 10:00am

Ok I posted twice, sorry...

Ray,
Glad you can still make it. Is the family going to join on sat? As for tow hooks what do you need ? I have Ramesy 9000 , 30000 pound strap with hooks . I realy don't think we'll need them. Most of the water on the trails is gone. We will be on fire trails most of the day . It's going to be fun, nothing your rig can't handle. These trails are realy fun in the winter. So maybe a winter trip can be planned.
Have you been able to find a lift ? The wife will realy like it! I promise .... I ran my Explorer stock with 31'10x50's and it did fine. Doesn't SuperLift have any thing ? The 5.5 made the truck look like a real 4X4. Just what the wife want's right... Maybe we can convince her. Yes, that's what we will do!

See Ya , Ji & Tami

I wanna go!!! I just keep thinking about it and trying to think of an excuse that she will buy. No luck yet, but I'm still thinking, I still have two days left to come up with a REAL GOOD excuse!!!

Any suggestions???

Ji
It's still on, we leave Loon Lake sunday mornning not sure of the time though.

Ray,

It was nice to meet you and Sandy. I hope Saturday wasn't to much of a dissapointment! The weekend progressively got worse! Brake lines were an easy fix Sunday Morning. After the brake lines were fixed, we decided to gas up for the day. After pumping gas, our truck wouldn't start! It was the starter. Kevin and I started the trek back to Placerville for a new starter. On the way, Kevin's truck decided to not cooperate! It took us 9 hours total to get back to where Tami and the kids were stranded and that was without Kevin's truck! Thank God the truck started right up with the new starter! We ended up leaving Kevin's truck at a dealership for repairs and Tami drove Kevin and crew back to Monterey. She volunteered since I had to work Monday morning. She made it almost back to Sacramento by 5am the next morning, when the new brake line failed. I went and got her and the truck and she eventually got home at 9:30am. This is a weekend I'm sure we all want to put behind us and forget about it!

Pictures are being developed, should be able to email them by this weekend.

If you'll still run with me, maybe we can plan another trip...

Ji (or should it be Jinx???)

P.S. Khoa, I guess Tami emailed you the details earlier. Let us know if you want to take your chances....we can plan another trip after our trucks(and Tami) have healed a little!

Well, I had a great time on Saturday even though Sunday was a Hell bound trip through life. Who was to know that we would both have problems that could not be detected prior to the run. Turns out that my catalytic converter decided to through up and clog the exhaust causing a considerable loss of power on the way to get Ji's starter. I spent $80 to have the dealership diagnose the problem hoping that it would be something covered by the extended warranty but wouldn't you know it, Murphy's law kicks in and it's not. Oh well, the more reason to get a new exhaust sytem which was in the plans anyway.

Ji, you aren't the jinx, I think it is Khoa who is the "missing link". We had no problems in Hollister Hills and since he bailed on us, we'll just do like we do in the Navy, blame it on the guy who wasn't there. Just kidding Khoa, I wish you could have seen some of the scenery there, it made Hollister Hills look like a sand pit. It was full of natural springs, waterfalls, and lakes. Wish you could have seen the views and another trip is deffinately in the works.

Thunderhorse, we saw you in passing on the way to the unforeseeable breakdown 30 minutes later but I would really like to know how you did on your trip. I never like to be the lab rat so if you could let me know how you did it would be great.

Ok let's try this again . How about a weekend in Aug? Camping and 4X4 ,anyone game? Let me know when ?

I will definately be there. I am not going to let this trail beat me. If you fall off, you have to get right back on. I just picked up my new borla cat back system and am going back to get my truck Sunday and make all the repairs. I am looking forward to a great weekend. Let's shoot for the 21st and 22nd since I know for sure I have that whole weekend off and it doesn't conflict w/ the Los Coyotes run in San Diego Dead Link Removed.

Ji -

It sounded like you guys had too much fun that Murphy's Law had to stop by for a visit. You probably should get your/Tami's brother-in-law a six pack, better yet, a keg for being there!!!

I'm planning on ordering the extended stainles steel braided brake lines so I can remove my sway bars for the next run.

Kevin - No problem, just blame it on the guy that wasn't there!!!

About the next trip, sorry everyone, that weekend (8/21 & 8/22) is not good for me, I'm going to be swamped in August due to a couple projects going out to construction and bids, etc. I think I can plan for late August if it's acceptable, the first weekend in August is our 6th-yr wedding anniversary, so I'd be minced meat if I decide anything else but a romantic getaway with the Mrs.!

Khoa.
